Im pretty sure it was something that happened in the middle ages in Sicily. The peasants of Sicily murdered all the French aristocrats. Yes there was a short(month long) rebellion in 1282 in Sicily against the French, known as the Sicilian Vespers. In modern day usage, the phrase "Night of the Sicilian Vespers" refers to a supposed purge of the old school Sicilian Mafiosi that kicked off after Maranzano got killed. That is what I was referring to.

it's pretty much been established among OC researchers, historians, and others that have investigated it, that the "Night of the Sicilian Vespers" is an urban legend with no factual basis. Supposedly it was a nationwide purge of around 40 of the old Mustache Pete loyalists, but in reality,a couple Maranzano guys got bumped off,2 or 3 in New York, and one out of state. Aside from that there as no big killing spree. What you say is true, it was believed to be true for many years, then debunked by a researcher who looked into it. Was it Joe Valachi who first said that it took place?
