I just can't comprehend how a plaque of the ten commandments or a cross is hurting/oppressing anyone.
We had basically the same discussion around Christmas, when we debated the appropriateness of religious displays in government buildings.
Some of us, myself included, are of the opinion that while they don't "hurt" or "oppress" anyone, they can or may give the appearance of the government sanctioning or favoring one religion over another.
