Cammarano and Zancocchio were acquitted the same week Mancuso was released (also the same week Persico and Cali died, so it was a strangely eventful one). Then a few months after the acquittal Jerry Capeci wrote an article about how Mancuso had shelved Cammarano, Zancocchio, Grimaldi and Grimaldi's son.

Apparently it was because Mancuso was unhappy with the trial strategy. To get Zancocchio off they cast doubt over his status as consigliere by pointing out how many other members had been identified as the consigliere in testimony during the trial (Vincent Badalamenti, Simone Eposito, Anthony Rabito, John Spirito). Mancuso was said to have taken this as a disrespectful remark about his inability to manage administration positions.

Though Mancuso could also just have put them all on the shelf because they posed a threat to him. After all, they were part of a rival faction and they tried to elect Cammarano as the official boss.

Mancuso put John Palazzolo up to serve as acting boss again, with assistance from a panel.
