Now that he's out...What's his status like in the family he and his brothers once ruled? Is he retired? Persona non grata?

Can't think the name Gotti is fondly thought of in the Gambinos.

Gene is probably the most respected Gotti out of the whole family. Not just the Gambino Family but all of them. Tough stand up guy, loyal, decent earner. Could have plead out and got 10-12 years but he followed his Boss orders and did 30. Genie would have been a better boss than John.

Genie status today? He is smart. He is retired. He had a substantial loansharking business. He is living a comfortable life with a cash cushion from that and one of the Gotti's trucking companies or scrap companies. They probably give Gene a minimum of $10k a month to live out his days in ease. He deserves it.

He is likely retired, anyone going near him now is an immediate target. He Is probably watched close to 24/7 He may be getting money that was his before he went to prison that he had out in loans or other things, but active--no. I bet he is still trying to figure out how to work a streaming tv service and voice activated devices. He must look at areas he used to frequent and be stunned at the changes.

For all the time he did he deserves it for certain, getting it to him must be a problem.

Yeah he's most probably retired. He did 29 years in the can and kept his mouth shut; he's not a disrespected man. He served out his sentence, his days as an active gangster are over and law enforcement and the media alike should just continue to leave him in peace.

He knows that it's a different game out there. He'd probably would want to stay off any radar and relax at his age. He had investments that were watched over while he was away. I'm sure he's satisfied with that. He'll always will be respected even if they've shelved him..

I would say 99% chance hes active...Its all he knows and who he is..too much ego and he maxed out of prison instead of going to halfway for a reason....

I'd put money on him being active. Given who he is and the respect he has, I wouldn't be surprised if he's already been bumped up to capo.

Or even Gambino boss he's 75 did his time.

Yes if I did so many years in prison I would do anything to avoid going back, but from the press reports I get the feeling Gene still has ambitions in the Family.

I think that Gene Gotti isn't Mattew Madonna,why risk to get another harsh sentence now that you are 75 y old?

I don't think he is active. He is too high profile

He make one move and a dozen half ass informants on the street will report him. The Feds will be all over his ass because he is an high value target to any prosecutor.

As for the press reports about him, I haven't seen anything specific about his current status, just speculation.

If he's involved in anything even a little bit, then he's dumber than his brothers. Whats the point? After all the time spent in jail, he comes out has a nice pot of money waiting for him and a family to spend the rest of his time with. The family isn't what it was before he went away and neither is the Mob. Enjoy the time you have left with family, sit around and talk shit about the "good old" let the youngest kiss your ass and listen to your stories but stay the hell out so you never go back to jail. if you go back I don't want to hear one person say the government is picking on him and he should be left alone or let out early to spend his last day with his family. My money says he's sitting around talking shit impressing the impressionable.
