None of us can be protected from lone nuts. They're a great equalizer. Neither joining the mob nor becoming the President will make any difference. Whether it's Lee Harvey Oswald or Anthony Comello lone nuts are just part of this world.
The Gambino's are too smart to extract revenge on a black swan. It's a tragedy pure and simple and must be chalked up to that alone. Besides, there's enough guys out there who would want to get in on the good side of the Gambino's that will happily kill this kid if they get the chance, so more likely than not the Gambino's don't need to do anything anyway.
....and that fact - that so many thugs would be willing to take on a murder rap just to get in good with the Gambino's goes to show how influential they still are - even at a fraction of the power they would have had 40-50 years ago.
Nobody knows his motive the Sicilians wouldn't kill him without knowing why he killed Franky Boy.

your hands on a made guy you were dead now if you kill an Underboss they do nothing....
Whats the point of joining the mob if they cant protect you...If they cant protect you from a nut how can they protect a made guys business or rackets....
