There is one thing I don't quite get about Merlino: why are people always saying he "won" the war against Stanfa? It would actually have been interesting to see who would have really won in that conflict, but the feds never gave them the chance, since they arrested Stanfa and his loyalists and put them in jail for life. Of course, Merlino exploited the situation and filled the void created, but unless people think the feds were working for Merlino, I don't see how can he be credited with this "victory", it wasn't really his merit that Stanfa was jailed for life.

When the war between Merlino and Stanfa was on these guys would not leave their own houses. They were scared to death. They have more rats walking around in south philly than in the witness protection. These guys are getting smacked around and abused today by rats. This life is over. They should all go get jobs and live happily ever after. The days of the life are all in the past. These guys are nickel and dime hoods who beat and disrespect everyone in their path. You can say what you will about Joey Merlino, but he fought his way to the top. FOUGHT is the key word here.

Can't see how anyone can disagree with what you said, whether they like him or not. He's been in the game for about 40 years now, did battle plenty of times and has consistently been the last one standing in said battles. He's had the feds on his tail and never snitched. He looks to be in good standing with all the other families, still has plenty of people looking up to him and has solid relations with other gangs in the city. I'm not even from the area, but I can do the math and if that's not the makings of a true gangster I don't know what is.

Dont listen to some stupid dickhead on a internet forum. Joey is a good guy to any who know him. If any of yous ran into him somewhere he would give you the respect and time of day to have a conversation with you and wouldnt blow you off. You can be cunning or whatever and still be a good person at the same time, which he 100% is. Joey deserves respect and thats why all around him give it to him. He took on a boss and took it over when he was like 30 and not even a made guy, spent most of it since locked up and never said a word and never would. He can sit back and relax in Florida now because he opened up everyone else to be where they are today and a lot of people owe him a lot. Although Joey may or may not of even been made had he grown up in NYC, the New York guys seem to really like him. The guy does have brass balls.

I’ve said this before, Joey at the end of the day is just a very charismatic individual that people are drawn to and flock to , both people in the streets and plain old pure civilians.

I’ve personally seen it with my own two eyes, you should see what happens when Joey and his crew shows up on a Sunday afternoon in the summer at Ventura’s Tiki Bar in Margate when the DJ is playing, it’s like N’Sync showing up at a 9 year old girls birthday party in the late 1990s.

I was born and raised in South Philly. These guys go out of their way for you, I have never had a bad experience around them or with them. Joey M, is a good guy when you get to know him. He really is. Marty is a Doll and they are fun loving funny guys. I think people that don't like them or talk bad about them may have some level of jealousy towards them. Some of these guys have gone through and are now going through alot. Thanks to the scumbag APRAT (rat persiano) I feel bad for these guys. Unfortunately, they let their guard down and let a rat - lying - scumbag - (who never liked any of them in the first place since the turra days) into their fold.

Hoodlum, I'm pretty sure that applies to at least almost every made guy who's father, uncle, cousin etc preceded them. They'd more than likely be no where without the connection. Yes I agree with you on Joey M though he’s always polite , funny, down to Earth , etc whenever I have been in his presence at the shore.

I also 100% agree with you that AP is a total scumbag , I told you his own nieces/nephews weren’t even allowed to be around him. I know a woman who he conned way back in the day to sign a lease for him of a massive Center City condo because he was selling drugs and couldn’t show legit income. Sometimes greed makes your judgement foggy and it gets the best of you, which is why I think AP was able to get around certain people. I also happen to think that Dom G inherited him into his crew and had no choice.

If you come to really think of it the Feds really didn’t get too much from AP , he was only able to jam up Dom G and then by default Stevie out of the big players. I don’t think anyone else of significance trusted AP. Then after Stevie and Dom G he got the drug dealing and bookmaking guys of the Mazzone wing of the family.

In the other wings of the family he was only able to jam up/get on the Feds radars Sharkey , Joey Electric through drugs, and Tony Mortgages. Sammy Piccolo was his main running mate in AC area from Nicky Jr old crew so of course he jammed and sold out his best friend.

The point I’m trying to make is that I really don’t think the majority of the family trusted AP or the Feds would have jammed up a lot more of the major players in Philly.

I also happen to think that The Feds don’t really have much on Stevie and predict that he will beat the charges like Uncle Joe and Georgie did last big indictment or he will plead to a gambling charge like Joey M did. I can see either of those scenarios happening because if you read the indictment they just have Stevie on tape at an induction ceremony which isn’t illegal, him simply saying on tape “were gangsters and to take back Atlantic City” is all they got of significance on him which a good defense team (which he has) could tear apart.

The only thing I could see if the Feds are pressing his brother Sonny but Sonny ain’t flipping on his own brother and definitely isn’t flipping over a bullshit gambling charge he made bail on. Sonny is an asshole but not that kind of asshole.

I think the Feds threw any charges they could on Stevie to see if it would stick.

^ To sum up my point with all of these posts (have some time to kill waiting here at the bank) is that I don’t think it’s fair to say AP was trusted by many. I think it was actually the opposite.


Dom G was jammed up because AP had to unfortunately be placed into someone’s crew and they only got Stevie on what I think are weak charges by default through getting Dom G . If AP was trusted they would have had a lot more of the major players in the indictment and would have had more serious charges like murder on certain guys. Don’t forget that AP introduced an undercover Fed so if he was actually trusted they would have had a lot more, a way lot more.
