Massino was friends with Anthony Dedona, a Colombo associate, who got into an argument with Zummo. Dedona was worried because Zummo had a very violent reputation, so he went to Massino and asked if he would help kill Zummo. Massino, Joseph Pastore (Colombo associate) and Tommy Delio (Genovese associate) agreed to help.

The four conspirators went into a bar in Queens and saw him there. Massino stayed at the bar while the others went to Dedona's house. When Zummo left the bar, Massino called Dedona's house to let him know. The others then shot Zummo in the lobby of his building.

So they copped a sneak because they Dedona was afraid that Zummo would kill him.
