Whoever ordered the hit, they really covered their tracks by using someone like Johnson. And being in front of police practically guaranteed Johnson wouldn't live to tell the tale. It's anybody's guess who he was working for. But I have to think that if it was Colombo Family business, the FBI would have found evidence of it. They had Greg Scarpa in their pocket at the time.

Very well said. Scarpa had been used before by the FBI for such cases as the Mississippi Burning case, and setting up someone to be killed was not a thing he would shy away from. The police being right there and no one getting arrested or charged is a matter that should have been investigated, but was ignored.
