Do u see (or know) any italian films? Do u like it? Personally I only like "Romanzo Criminale" (It-UK-French produtcion, don't know if translated, litterally "Crime Novel"), a story based on Magliana's gang, biggest crime organization in Rome near '70-80....if you know others then tell me..

I can recommend two, Dario--both from the early Sixties:
"Mafioso" (1962), directed by Alberto Lattuada, starring Alberto Sordi as an honest Sicilian who migrated to Milan, has a supervisory job in the Alfa Romeo plant, married a blond, Northern Italian woman. He and his family return to Sicily for a family visit after many years' absence. The first half is a riotously funny comedy, as only the Italians can do it. The second half is a deadly serious murder plot into which the hapless Sordi is drafted. This is a great movie--one of the best I've ever seen. But I only saw it once, in theatrical release in ' 62. It's not available on VHS or DVD here in the US.

"La Smania Addosso" (1963), a.k.a. "Eye of the Needle," is another Sicilian Mob story that's mostly comedy. It stars the great Vittorio Gassman as a Mobbed up lawyer. I don't remember much about it except that I liked it a lot.

"Prince of the City" - has a lot of mob cross-over, though its focus is police corruption in general

There's stuff on satellite you can watch, I'm not sure which channel it would be depending on what kind of cable or satellite service you have for your television, but on Directv, IFC channel 550 and Sundance channel 549 play films.

"La Piovra" is a classic, always a pleasure to see whenever any of its subseries is on TV. I read good things about the recent "Paolo Borsellino", too.

There are many italian films about mafia...

Jonny Stecchino, Palermo - Milano sola andata, Paolo Borsellino, Donne di Mafia, La mafia mi fa un baffo, la mafia dei nuovi padrini and so on...

The Godfahter is an epic film, but it couldn't be real. The sicilian mafia, or la 'Ndragheta, la Camorra, la Stidda, la Sacra Corona unita are not interested in honour, family, pizza, pasta e mandolino. These are things that only Puzo (an italian - american, as Coppola) and Coppola could represent and write.

I think they are interested in their own family, and in pizza tough.

The one I was thinking of was there was Johnny Stecchino, Johnny Toothpick, the woman in the movie was calling him that, it was subtitled, there was also some films in the italian language that were fairly good that came on IFC or Sundance that were not mob related.
