Does anybody know if Louie's in the Bronx was a fictional restaurant or did that place really exist? Maybe a restaurant with a different name? Or was that scene shot on a set?

If I'm not mistaken, the scene was shot on location, weither or not it exists anymore, I dont know. Louis's is a fictional name, I dont know what the name of the real place was. Jack Dempsy's, where Mike gets picked up at, was a real place.
Again, there is a slight chance I have my facts wrong on the Louis's part. One of the NY guys can probably confirm it for you.

I believe that the restaurant closed down a year or two after the movie was released.

Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

I heard it became a church, although I don't know how accurate that is.

"Growing up my dad was like 'You have a great last name, Galifianakis. Galifianakis...begins with a gal...and ends with a kiss...' I'm like that's great dad, can we get it changed to 'Galifianafuck' please?" -- Zach Galifianakis

It was a real Italian restaurant when they filmed the shooting scene there. It was called "The Luna Restaurant" and its address was 3510 White Plains Rd. (near Gun Hill Rd.). The real life owner played a waiter in the movie. The restuarant closed down about a year after the movie was filmed there.

The "el" (elevated subway line) outside is still there.

Its now "The Bethel Church of God", a storefront church.
