You are kidding are you? Anyways, I think he did a great Job with his role, especially in that scene mentioned^^, that is GREAT acting. I think people dont talk about this role because Ray Liotta was the main character and Joe Pesci's superb performance, so they get more attention. Im tied between Taxi Driver and Raging Bull being the best roles De Niro's, then the Godfather Part 2, then The Deer Hunter followed by this one...but5 he has sooooo many

Don Vito the younger was his best acting performance. Not only did he have to fill the shoes of a legend and a Oscar winning performance from Brando, but speak Italian in the process.

Now you see, this is my only complaint with this site, and it's members... It seems like you're all just being biased and constraining him to La Cosa Nostra related films.
I have to agree with DV on this one -- I mean, he almost forced Scorsese to make Raging Bull, and at that he completely risked his health to do the movie.
And Taxi Driver was the first film of its kind; The dark, social-pathic movie with a gritty sense of humour, in which you actually LIKE the physcotic character; now, how many movies can you think of that fit that descritiprion prior to 1976? Now, look at all the films after that point. Amazing.
His performances in the Deer Hunter, and Once Upon a Time in America (a personal favorite of mine), follow extremely close behind.
