The Aviator may not be Scorcese's best movie but the man deserves an oscar for his lifetime achievements who else could have made classic movies like:Raging Bull,Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Kings of Comedy, Mean Streets the list is endless. I believe he derserves an oscar, who else agrees?

I'll be pulling for him, as well as Michael Moore for best documentary, Kill Bill (Uma for Best Actress, Quentin for anything), and The Passion of the Christ.

I think that Leo should be considered for best actor. He is becoming one of my favorite actors. I liked him in "Gangs of New York" and "Catch Me If You Can", and now I think he is great in "The Aviator".

I agree. Di Caprio has come a LOOOONG way since Titanic, and his days on Growing Pains. Both GONY and Catch Me were brilliant films, and I also liked him in Romeo & Juliet. He could very well be the next Johnny Depp.

I thought it was very good. It's not Leo's best film, but the modernizing of the classic story was pretty good.

I too enjoyed it. It could have been worse, but had a good cast & the props (guns, cars, costumes, etc) were good as well. You can probably get it a Wal-Mart for $8.88

Dicaprio has come some way but he is not even close to Depp's talent.

I don't like a director being given a sympathy award. Scorsese should've won for his four better films then this one alone, although it was the best direction of this year from what I've seen and do hope he wins.

Romeo+Juliet was horrid. The 1968 version was much better.

Most important of all is that Scorsese wins the award deservingly. I've yet to see the Aviator (can't wait!), but I'd hate for him to win Best Actor on the basis of his other work. It wouldn't be fair on other directors to judge Scorsese by the likes of Raging Bull etc. So, if he wins, he has to deserve it. Whether he does or not, I will find out soon enough.

I think Scorsese is trying to make Leo the next DeNiro. Looking at his IMDB profile Leo is already slated for Scorsese's next flick along with Matt Damon.
Im looking forward to it, Scorsese seems to get better the more he uses an actor

The remake of the 2002 Hong Kong hit film revolves around a rivalry between the Boston police force and an Irish-American gang. A gangster is chosen to infiltrate the police force while a young police officer is chosen to infiltrate the gang. When their paths cross, what will be the result?

I too hate sympathy awards, but each year I lose more and more faith that the Academy knows what the hell they are talkling about,so we'll see.
BTW Does anyone know when the Oscars are going to air?

A remake, of course! Horrible! I hope he has a brinawave and decides against it, but the way things are going, Scorsese is going to become the next Sellout.

At least with Cape Fear (1991), it was a Hollywood film he remade, and a poor one at that. With Infernal Affairs I imagine he's simply trying to make an English language film for the dumb folk in the West who can't read subtitles. The original is a vibrant, original action thriller made only two years ago; Scorsese's film will be no different. So why remake it?

The Oscars air on February 27th.

I liked Cape Fear. I never saw the original but I thought De Niro did a really good job in it & glad he got nominated for an Oscar

For the record, nominations don't mean anything unless you go all the way and win it.

I too thought Cape Fear was amazing, and far superior to the original. That's why I defended it while lashing out against Scorsese's intention to remake Wujian Dao (aka Infernal Affairs; 2002) in the same sentence. I'd hate to sound like a hypocrit.

Hey, it's better to be nominated than not to be nominated. I'm sorry I read your post wrong, I thought you were calling Marty's Cape Fear poor instead of the original. My mistake, sorry
