I think it's a good film.

Its about a groups of cops trying to bring the Chicago Mafia down most of all Al Capone (DE NIRO)

Worth watching

Some say it's DePalma's best film. Is that true? Is it better than Scarface?

Very hard to compare the 2 films in my opinion.

They were both good films but I think the setting of the movies says alot. I liked the untouchables more when it comes to the time perioed/cars/clothing of it. I like scarface more because of the storyline and rise to the "top" sort of thing.

It only costs $4 to rent- it's worth it

Cool, thanks for the input guys. That's going to be my next rental, along with On the Waterfront.

I gotta say I really didn't care for the Untouchables that much. It was alright, but it just seemed cartoony for me. I really think DeNiro was miscast as Capone. I love the guy, he's a fantastic actor, but I just can't see his as Capone.

It should be noted that I'm also not a Costner fan.

The Untouchables **
(1987/De Palma/US)
In the 20s, a group of Federal Agents chase down Al Capone.
Old-fashioned cop adventure which has imbalanced tones throughout, though the director's vision clearly captures the time and plot.

For pure entertainment value, The Untouchables is a good movie. As far as being factual (which is what I look for in many mob movies) I'd have to say that this one is way off the mark.

I really dont like The Untouchables, its way to fairy tale-ish for me, but you should see it and make your own opinion. On The Waterfront is 100% better though.

hated it. especially the way the untouchables are cast as the good guys. I found myself cheering whenever one of them was taken out, especially that guy in the lift 'untouchable?'

sean connerys racism in it is also awful

I wouldn't necessarily call it racism. There was an ethnic pride in those days. Way before anything was considered politically incorrect. I'd venture to say that it was one of the more authentic elements to the movie.

Watched it again today; third time I've seen it this year, and it disappoints more and more each time...

The Untouchables *
(1987/De Palma/US)
In the 20s, a group of Federal Agents chase down Al Capone.
An adventure too old-fashioned to be taken seriously, especially when combined with the director's insistence on bloody deaths.

well no not really, i was just looking for an excuse to dislike sean connery's role in the movie. Good when garcia calls him a 'filthy irish pig' though

A Latin guy playing an Italian, and a Scot playing an Irishman. I didn't like Connery in it either. In fact, I'm going to write a full review of this film listing all the major problems with it (and, of course, the good points too).

I like that movie and I found no problem with Sean Connery's racism, in fact my friends and I thought he did a good job and was funny. Even though I'm Italian-Irish.

I like the film. I think it's good. And good is good enough. It isn't great, it isn't fantastic, it's simply good. Although I think Costner was terrible. That part where he kills his first guy, and he's like "IS THIS A GAME!?" I laugh everytime I see that. It's like he needed to take a dump while he was saying it.

DSC, I agree that this film can't touch On the Waterfront. Not too many films can. One of Brando's best performances, and Lee J. Cobb was awesome too.

"Growing up my dad was like 'You have a great last name, Galifianakis. Galifianakis...begins with a gal...and ends with a kiss...' I'm like that's great dad, can we get it changed to 'Galifianafuck' please?" -- Zach Galifianakis
