Casino was based on real life happenings I know. But, just how true to the facts was the film?? For instance, did the boyfriend of Ginger really exist? Did she really give him all the money and stuff. I saw a programme on TV about it but it didnt really clarify

Can't help with the question, FH (Turnbull will most likely be on his way) but would like to "Officially" welcome you back!

Yes his name was Frank R______(I cant remember it) A lot of the characters were based on real life Mafioso.

All the main characters in "Casino" were based on real people. "Ace Rothstein" is based on Frank (Lefty) Rosenthal. "Ginger" is Geri McGee. "Nicky" is Anthony (the Ant) Spilotro. The lowlife pimp who was "Ginger's" longtime boyfriend, played by James Woods, was based on real-life Lenny Marmor.

The novel is a slightly more accurate portrail of Lefty, Ginger, and Tony. If you havent read it and want to, check ebay because its out of print. I didnt care for it as much as i thought. If you want realy good historical information about the characters, check out "The Mafia Encyclopedia" ...best 18 bucks I ever spent

Bart, Is it wrong to steal a loaf of bread to feed your starving family? No. Well suppose you got a large starving family, is it wrong to steal a truckload of bread to feed them? Uh-uh. And what if your family don't like bread, they like cigarettes? I guess thats ok. Now what if instead of giving them away, you sold them at a price that was practically giving them away. Would that be a crime Bart?

Oscar Goodman, the Vegas lawyer who defended Lefty Rosenthal and Anthony Spilotro in real life, played himself in "Casino." He's now the mayor of Vegas.

Casino by Nicholas Pileggi. i have it in hardbound but found later that pocketbooks are more enjoyable in reading. hardbounds are bulky and can't bring'em everywhere. i believe there are two versions of the book, go get the cover with the plain text Casino on it. the other one is the movie version (with pics).

Yes, it's called "Wiseguy" I have it but I've never read it.
