This is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I cant think of one negitive thing to say. The ending was the best, when I saw it I just thought, wow, thats good. The story is so good and the acting is even better. SPOILER I was wondering about the thing under Sonny's hood, but it might have been an attempt from the guy who shot him. END SPOILER 10/10

An excellent movie a great cast and story, I like the narrative in the story. I enjoy this movie and I always watch it when it's TCM and other movie channels.

Very good movie, I was impressed with DeNiro's directing capabilities. It's actually based on Chazz P's childhood. I enjoyed it. 7.5/10

A Bronx Tale is amazing. It and Midnight Run are some of De Niro's most underrated movies (I rarely see anyone ever talking about them despite the fact they kick so much ass it hurts; perhaps they're turned off that the director of MR also did Gigli, but still).

I was very suprised at how good A Bronx Tale was. It has great acting and story. I also liked that soundtrack and De Niro did a good job directing.

"Bronx Tale" for the most part was a fine film. DeNiro outdid even Scorsese in creating an absolutely authentic look and feel for his movie. Acting was uniformly excellent--particularly Clem Caserta (who had one line in "Goodfellas," and none in "Casino"). But the ending was a fraud. In order to concoct a cheap, quick "happy ending" and a "love interest," DeNiro had C fall in love with a black girl, Jane Williams, and she with him. No way that ever would have happened, either in real life or in that film. DeNiro got the bigotry and racial tensions right, but the romance was a complete, off-the-wall improbability. It was as if, in GFIII, Michael Corleone had joined the priesthood after Cardinal Lamberto heard his confession.

Improbable. Unlikely. Not impossible.

The love story was another, and more pronounced way, of showing that C was cut from a different cloth than those around him.

Yes, it was an attempt to show a different side of C. But it wasn't at all convincing. Until that point, he was just as much a bigot and wiseass as the rest of the guys around him. And, at a time of growing racial violence, and heightened pride among blacks, Jane could scarcely be expected to fall for someone like C.
No, SC and pl, not impossible, but exceptionally improbable, given that DeNiro skipped any effort to lay credible groundwork for a romance between the two. That's what puts a jarring note into this otherwise carefully made film.

Hey Turnbull, maybe since Robert DeNiro has been married twice, and both wereAfrican American women, he saw it differently.. This is my take on A Bronx Tale...
My grandparents grew up in that very same neighborhood and in that era, and I am quite certain a relationship like Jane and C's would not have lasted. Even today, it would still carry a certain stigma..it is a very tight knit community. Even when parents (my dad is Italian, my mother Cuban/Irish) were dating, my grandfather was not too happy my dad was dating someone other than an italian woman. So if it was tough for my parents in the late 70's. So imagine what Jane and C would have encountered. I dont feel it was very realistic but I loved the movie.

I definately think it was an attempt by the kid who eventually shot Sonny. No doubt about it.
I don't know if many of you are aware of it, but A Bronx Tale was based on a true story about Chazz Palmenteri's childhood. The character "C" is real life Chazz as a child. Sonny, who is played by Chazz, was the gangster that young Chazz, in real life, idiolized in his childhood.
Chazz originally wrote this story on the lines of an autobiography and made it into a play. Then DeNiro approached Chazz with the idea of making the play into a movie. Just a little info for those who may not have known.
