I've got Mean Streets on DVD, and it's a brilliant film. Really worth watching if you like Scorcese's films.

Hoodlum is not good as a gangster film. It's too romantic (this does not mean Love Story, but more fairtytale) and not authentic, has some mediocre acting and can not live up to oh I don't know, Goodfellas or something.
but it's about Lucky Luciano, Dutch Schultz and how a 'brother' interferred with theme, it has Tim Roth and Andy Garcia, and let's face it, it is still a mafia film, so I'd suggest it anyway. But it's not as good as you want it to be

Mean Streets is one of the best films ever made, and in the top three (at least) of top De Niro performances, IMO. Well worth an enjoyable watch. Clasic acting by De Niro and Keitel, as well as the great supporting cast, including a gentle Richie Aprile (David Proval) in his younger days.  ****/****, and 9/10. Mick
