Fantasy isn't everybody's cup of tea, but I must say that you cannot say that the LOTR movies are must "not" have movies. They are excellently made, and are nothing short of extravagent filmmaking.

I agree totally, Mick. Even if, as you said, one is not a fantasy fan, you gotta' at least respect how great the cinematography was, as well as the FX.

Mike Sulivan: Gods and Generals was a great story. I'm a big Civil War buff (and I loved Gettysburg, save for Martin Sheen as Robert E. Lee  ), so I know something of Stonewall Jackson's campaign in the Shenandoah Valley. The story is terrific...BUT it was waaaay too long and drawn out. I went to a special showing with about 70 or so people in the theater. At intermission time, I had to get out of there, and when I got up, so did about fifty others, all nearly sprinting to the parking lot! I think it's a shame they took such great history and butchered it. The acting? Duvall and Daniels were okay, but Stephen Lang (Stonewall Jackson) badly overacted. That, too, was a shame, because he did a fine job of portraying General George E. Pickett in Gettysburg. Anyway, just wanted to clarify why I detested it. It's pretty bad if a hardcore Civil War nut like me could not get into it. But if you dug it, that's great.
