That leads to another question: Where's Al Pacino, what was the last movie he was in? Scent Of A Woman, and how about DeNiro? They're all growing older, unfortunately.

Pacino is in that movie with Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck called Gigli. Here's imdb's summary...

A lowly thug, Gigli (Ben Affleck), is assigned to kidnap the psychologically challenged younger brother of a powerful federal prosecutor to save his mobster boss from incarceration. Staked-out in his one-bedroom apartment with his kidnap victim, Brian (Justin Bartha), Gigli soon realizes that what he thought would be a routine assignment soon becomes a tumultuous task. Ricki (Jennifer Lopez), a gorgeous, free-spirited female gangster is sent to assist Gigli with the kidnapping because his boss does not think that Gigli is up to the job. But when his feelings for the decidedly unavailable Ricki begin to grow, and he actually becomes concerned for Brian, tough guy Gigli begins to transform into an actual human being...which considering his profession could be a very dangerous occupation.

D'ya really think Pesci should've won the Oscar for Goodfellas? All he did was use the f word too many times. Oh BTW, I just learnt that his last name means 'fish'.

I wasn't around in 1990 (I mean, I was there, but did not see all eligable movies back then) so I can't realy judge in hindsight if his performance was oscar worthy.

but I thought the exact same thing this afternoon, when watching Casino (where he simply reprises his Tommy D character).

one actor that didn't deserve to win OVER him is Andy Garcia though, who was nominated as well in that category. I think he does great in GF III but Pesci is way better even though his role was a lot about swearing and kicking.

other good movies that year were Awakenings, Dances with Wolves, Edward Scissorhands and Millers Crossing

this is from another thread i started sometime ago:

article from May 2001:

Joe Pesci to inform on the Mob in new thriller

Joe Pesci is lining up to star in the new Mafia thriller Don't Say a Word.

The Goodfellas and Casino star told friends that he had been looking for a change of image.

But director Roland Joffe has tempted him back to the world of the Mob in the Mafia biopic.

The story focuses on the life of Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano, who exposed his bosses to the FBI and entered a Witness Protection Programme.

Joffe, who made The Mission and The Killing Fields, is hoping to get the film into production in the autumn.

A source close to Pesci told Ananova: "Joe wants to work with Roland and loves the story.

"But he wants to cut down on the violence. He feels the bloodshed has been getting in the way of his career."

I don't know if Pesci was the best supporting actor in 1990, but at least he was very very good.
I mean, his role as Tommy DeVito was really just about swearing and kicking, but swearing and kicking is not that easy! if I was there, I would suck in swearing and kicking for sure. What I mean is, you don't need to make an motional role to get an award or something like this.

Holy smokes! I've never seen this story before today. But I have made the same argument on this board previously. Pesci would be a perfect Sammy Gravanno.

Joe is a brilliant actor without a doubt.
He should have won an Oscar for his role as Nicky Santoro in Casino. That was his best role to date.
We miss you, Pesci. Please come back to Hollywood.

I liked Pesci in Casino, but I dont know if it was an Oscar worthy performance. It was basically the same character they gave it to him for in Goodfellas.

Sure they were somewhat different, but each time, the characters were loud, angry, mean, tough, funny, and self conscious about their size. For the most part, Santoro and Devito were the same character.

Idk, I sort of liked it. it definetly had its moments. It was funny to see Joe Pesci as the controlling character over Glover as opposed to the Lethal Weapon movies.

(Jeez mike... we sure disagree on alot of things dont we.)
