Not even close...

GF but more than a 1000 miles.

I don't really consider Heat as a Mafia film.

Yeah, Heat is kinda border line. I can think of several other movies that are too, but still good films.

As far as best mafia movie. That's really tough. Each film is a different story, so I guess it's what you're in the mood for watching.

I voted Godfather 2, just because I love Robert Deniro's role as Young Vito.
Then again, I really like his role as Jimmy Conway in Goodfellas. Ahhh decisions, decisions!

Well duh! The Godfather. Scarface ran a pretty close second.

I LIKE GoodFellas a LITTLE more... But, Godfather is still the better film.

Goodfellas is great up until after Mr.Devito gets whacked. Then its downhill. I kinda wished they would've ended it there, haha. I know it wouldn't do good for continuity, though.

What do you mean? After Tommy dies, it's awesome. The drug parts are great, man.

Well, Mr.Lombardi, I just don't find it very interesting. It doesn't deal with the mafia anymore at that point. I think that is the core of the film. And I put "Mr.Devito" just in case by chance somebody would read the post and not have seen the film. Although I'm pretty sure everyone here has seen it.

You sure do love to call me Mr. Lombardi. Is that out of respect or spite? :p

Well, I don't think it HAS to deal with the mafia to be a good film, although I'm not implying you said this. I'm just saying -- myself. Tommy is my favorite character, as Pesci is my favorite actor... And sure, BEFORE that it's better... But, doesn't mean after it, it isn't interesting. I thought the end drug parts were very interesting.

Just my two cents.

It's really a tough choice between GF and GFII, but I always go for GFII, simply because I love the Young Vito era so much. Yet one is really just as good.

Personally, I loved Casino. But my favorite of all time, SCARFACE.

The Godfather is the best Mafia movie for me. to think that the first GF was released 1972 and we still appreciate it that's a classic and very well done with class. try watching other movies same batch as the Godfather, i'm sure it will not have the same impact as GF. IMHO. GoodFellas is my second favorite followed by Casino. . .

GoodFella

I honestly believe that Road to Perdition is better than most of the movies that are in this poll.

Scarface was bloody aweful. Very badly done, no matter how good Pacino is.

It was hard between GF I, II, and Pulp Fiction (which isn't really a mafia movie), but I went GF2.

The Godfather I and II are definately my favorites. I also really enjoyed Once Upon a Time in America. I like how it shows how they started out as young kids and progresses.

I voted The Godfather, to me simply the best mafia-movie in history.

Finally someone who agrees that Scarface isn't the cream of the crop. I mean, it's VERY over-rated... But, come on, man... It's not HORRIBLE. Under HORRIBLE movie listings, itd' be...

  • Space Mutiny
  • Squirm
  • Empire
  • Plan 9 From Outer Space

I don't think Scarface is down there with THOSE, but it's definately over-rated.

I voted: Other.

My pick would be Gangs Of New York.

Andy Garcia's acting on Hoodlum is extraordinary. I didn't like the movie itself... It was too shitty. I'd watch it just for Garcia's acting again. The mood of the film and the setting were done accordingly though. It really affected the movies image.

Geese, Scarface isn't the worse, and isn't really that overrated (the only people I've ever seen praising it are on this board, you see). But I just didn't like it. Not even that entertaining. Definately not my kind of movie.

In that list you're forgetting all the Star Wars movies, Lombardi...those rank as the most overrated films of all time.

You said it was bloody awful, bud. Then you said it's not that bad. Make up your mind! :p I do see people praising it here all the time, and it's quite stupid. It's not THAT great, but it ain't that bad either. What I HATE are the stupid kids today who love it, but never even seen it -- and just SAY they like it 'cause the rappers they like like it. They've never even seen it. Morons.

And the Star Wars movies are one of the all times greats, man.

Scarface for the longest time was my favorite movie, but then I was introduced to the godfather and to be honest with you I didn't care for it the first I watched it, but then the more I watched it the more I loved it. Then I got into the whole trilogy and from that GF II is my all time favorite.

So my top three are:

1. GF II
2. GF
3. Scarface
