bad guy, go and beat up whoever told you it's not that good!!!

i highly recommend it. if you are looking for a flashy, pro-war movie then this film is NOT for you! the acting is excellent by everbody, the length is long (over 3 hours!) but necessary IMO, and the directing is brilliant! de niro's acting is superb, and john cazale and christopher walken are also. you don't acually see much of the vietnam war, but what you do see is enough, and allows for great, gut-wrenching acting in the aftermath! go and get it!

i speak a little biased here, as i have not seen platoon and apocalypse now, but this is the best 'nam movie i've seen, ahead of the killing fields.

My dad rented this one for me last week. I loved it. I think it was a little long, and I thought the wedding scene in the beginning could have been cut down and the Vietnam scenes lengthened. Other than that I was incredibly impressed. The feeling I had after the conclusion of the movie stayed with me for days. DeNiro was, of course, out of this world. His scenes during Vietnam were incredbile. Christopher Walken was also amazing, in fact, that movie made me have a new respect for him as an actor. I always saw him as the "creepy" guy, but he truely was magnificant as Nicky. It's a film that is neither anti-war nor pro-war, and it leaves you with a sense of how changed people were by their experiences in Vietnam. A definate one to watch, especially if you are a DeNiro fan. Highy recommended.

Before this, I thought Christopher Walken as Zorin from A View To Kill and The Continental on Saturday Night Live.

I would watch it if i were you and yes go kick the crap out of the guy who told you it sucked. The same people who said Harry Potter was the best movie they've ever seen.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a very cool movie Mick! you should rent it! Is not bad is good!

I want to watch Deer Hunter too.

By the way, this movie has nothing to do with the Mafia, what is it doing here?

my thoughts exactly, it's a war movie, not other mob movie!

i read philosopher's stone; very good book, but for some reason i ain't interested in watching the movie.

to get back on the subject, i think the deer hunter's intentions wasn't to show what the vietnam war was like; it was to show how the lives of normal men were affected by it. the wedding scene is not too long IMO; it shows how close these people are to each other, and leads up to the war brilliantly. i think this movie shows that you don't need to show the actual war itself to get the message across. bad guy, watch it again, taking my post into consideration, and maybe you will appreciate it more!

The Deer Hunter is a awesome movie!, It was Walkens best film he has ever made. I think he actually won a Best Supporting Oscar for his role as Nicky.

Leonard: I dont know. See, I have this condition.
Teddy: Well, I hope its not as serious as his, 'cos this guy's dead.

The Deer Hunter is an awesome movie. Chris Walken is not one of my favourite actors and I agree with Don Palentino it was one of Walkens best movies. A good movie and well worth $7.00

I love this movie - it's one of the few films that makes me cry.

Deniro, Cazale & Walken are superb. It's one of the most emotional movies I have ever seen.

Unbelieveable movie. Deserves two best film awards, just for being so good.

i finally saw the movie and its great. Bobby's acting when Christopher Walken killed himself was perfecto! same old Bobby up to now. this is the second movie of Bobby i saw with God Bless America on the musical score(or soundtrack?) after Once Upon a Time in America.
