What's the best execution scene you've ever seen in any movie??

Mine would have to be when Joe Pecsi (In Goodfellas) puts a enemy's soldiers' head in a vice until he screams who sent him. That scene was excellent.

That was in Casino. Not Goodfellas.

Interesting question, BG. It's not hard for a director to create blood and horror in an execution, but I like those that have drama around them.
For example: The scene in "Mean Streets" when David Carradine (the drunk) gets shot five or six times and still manages to stagger after the shooter (Robert Carradine). He seems almost superhuman, staggers into the jukebox (playing "Mala Femina" by Jimmy Roselli), bar patrons flee into the streets, Carradine finally collapses on garbage cans. Great scene!
Another: Though this might seem out of place on these boards, the final shootout in "Unforgiven" is one of the greatest scenes ever filmed. Just absolutely unforgettable for its spare staging and drama.

Mine would be the beating of Nicky Santoro & his brother Dominick at the end of Casino! It's hard for me to watch these guys getting the crap beat outta them, and getting buried while they're still alive. To me, the saddest part is Nicky having to watch his brother Dominick get beaten first & he can't do anything about it. I have an older brother, and I don't know what I would do in that situation...I wouldn't be able to watch!

I'm with Irishman on the beating of Nicky and Dominic plus the Final Scene in Scarface. they made this two very realistic. . .

Yes, that was both vicious and dramatic. Scorsese has plenty of violence in his films, but he does it with style, and with a point to make, not just mindlessly, as do so many others.

The Irish guy getting his eye poped out in Casino tops the list for me.

Leonard: I dont know. See, I have this condition.
Teddy: Well, I hope its not as serious as his, 'cos this guy's dead.

any execution from "The Green Mile" but in particular the last one (Michael Clarke Duncan)

I realize it's not the kind of execution you guys were talking about so far...

what about the shooting of "Marvin" in the back of Jules Winfield's car, in Pulp Fiction?

I like the execution in Once Upon A Time In The West, a guy sort of gets killed by his own brother, they put a wrope around his neck, they put him on his brother´s shoulders, but he coulden´t hold him so he felt on the ground and his brother got hanged.

Rocky Sullivan's in Angels With Dirty Faces tops my list, and is touching, and hard to watch, nothing touches it.

The final execution at the end of Braveheart always gets to me.

A great movie! The genius of casting Henry Fonda, "Mr. Nice Guy," as a cold-blooded killer! Plus, recruiting Jack Elam and Woody Strode for that unforgettable opening scene!
