Hey, I'm reading this book called The Luciano Project, it's about how the U.S. Navy and the Mafia collaborated during WWII. I don't know if anyone's talked about this before, and the book's kinda "wordy" . was just wonderin if anyone else ever heard of this. There's also somethin about how the mafia helped with the invasion of Sicily??
New stuff to me I dunno. Any of you guys know??
(Turnbull)?lol Thanks

I don't know if this is true, but I'll just throw it out there & you can tell me what you think/heard. I heard sometime ago that Mussialine (spelling is off) almost had destroyed the mob in Italy, until our troops (U.S. that is), went over there during World War II and let them all out of jail. The reason we let them out is because we didn't know they were with the mob, and we thought the were innocent civilians. Then after that, and after the war, that's when the Italians started to come to America. Is any of this right?

Wow, i never heard a that Irishman12, I think it would make sense though if its true. What I know is that tha Mafia helped the Navy protect the eastern harbors, more importantly New York City, it's kinda interesting to know that tha Mob was involved in a world war.

When the allies invaded Sicily in 1943 Luciano played an important part by using their contacts to the allies' favor.

The Allies in war torn Europe were about to launch an invasion of Sicily. The U.S. could use some help in acquiring intelligence on German troop movements and other vital military information. The U.S. had reason to believe the Mafia wanted the Axis forces off the island, so that they could get back to peace and prosperity for its own purposes. Naval Intelligence made numerous unrecorded visits to Great Meadow to solicit help from Lucky. Can he get word to the Mafia leaders on Sicily asking for help? Lucky assured them he could, and it was later proven he did.

I thought Italians started coming to America big time halfway the 19th century? So about 100 years earlier?
