Is the Sonny gang based on a New York family like the Bonnanos. If so, is Sonny the same person like the Sonny in Donnie Brasco???

As far as I know, Bronx tale is totally fictional. I don't see any hints in the film as to who the charicters might be based on. The Sonny in BT is definately not Sonny Napolitano of Donnie Brasco. Bronx is 1950's-60's, Brasco is 70's-80's. I believe the Luchese family was prominant in the Bronx, perhaps the charicter was based on a member of that family.

Yes a fictional film based on Chazz Palminteri's screen play. But I think he based some parts on his own childhood and growing up experiences. Sorry thats as far as I know.

The Sonny in A Bronx tale had anything to do witht the two Sonny's(Sonny Black, and Sonny Red) in Donnie Brasco.

I watched this last night for the first time. I really enjoyed it I hadnt known it was DeNiros directorial debut! Thing that surprised me most tho was Joe Pesci popping up at the end
I think these actors are all in the tough guy/mafia acting club.
By that I dont mean there typecast, well DeNiro isnt anyway.
I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it!
