I never see this movie mentioned on these boards. Am I the only one that liked it? Great mob movie, great cast, very well made.

On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it about a 7. Unlike most long movies of the gangster genre, Once Upon a Time's length seemed unnecessarily long. Certain parts or relationships were too lengthy and really added nothing to the story (e.g., the loose girl Noodles and the guys stole cakes for). The editing could've been better done, too. The performances? A-plus, no doubt! But the forementioned snags knocked off points in my book.

It's a really good film but the kind that requires alot of attention from the very beginning. It is also very slow to start off with and the phone ringing is very annoying but once it gets into the story, maybe 30 minutes, it gets alot better and makes good viewing. To me it's also one of those films I can watch only once or twice. I've seen it twice in the last two years and I don't plan on watching it for a good while yet, it is very long.

By the way, anyone notice the young girl in it, the dancer is now the women in 'A Beautiful Mind'? It was killing me for ages where I recognised that woman then I checked IMDB.com. I'm not sure but she could have also been the girl in Laborynth too with David Bowie. I loved that film as a kid.

it's a very good movie. but I thought 'A Bronx tale' was better.

"The Bronx Tale" was great! A very underestimated film. I thought it was especially a terrific directorial debut for my main man, DeNiro!

Not to jump on the proverbial bandwagon, but A Bronx Tale is one of my all time favorites...on my top 10 list. Great writing (Palminteri) and directing (DeNiro) and a great story with a great cast as well.

Jennifer Connelly is the girl you're thinking of. I agree with Turi, I only saw it once and thought it was alright, I'd watch it again but not any time soon.

Once Upon A Time In America is one of my all time favorites! I loved the scenes in Brooklyn(it has to be Brooklyn, for when the old Noodles returns to the neighborhood, you see the Manhattan skyline. Although the back of the case says Lower East Side, but whatever). Best line was "You'll put up and you'll shut up, you hear nothin and see nothin, just like you did for Bugsey." Also, the score was phenomenal.

Its been awhile since I've watched the movie, but its quite possible that it was filmed on location on the lower East side. There are parts of that area (around the bridges) from which the midtown and downtown skylines seem distant.
