Just seen this film. It was on TV the other day, I recorded it and just watched it now. What a load of crap it is.

Tim Roth was excellent I felt at portraying Dutch Schultz. Andy Garcia was pretty good as Luciano, even had some effects made on his face for the crooked/lazy eye.

Lawrence Fishburn was ok as "Bumpy" Johnson. I i've never heard of Bumpy but in this film it seemed like the makers/directors/screenplay writers etc, tried to make Bumpy come off as a hero, a local Robin Hood like what films have done to Gotti. Which I didn't like.

Also I can't seem to find anything on Bumpy to find out what he was truly like or if he ever existed.

Anyway, this film isn't worth watching. Alot of it seemed very innacurate aswell.

I didn't like Hoodlum that much either, but it's not as bad as some other ones I've seen lately, like Lansky. That was really boring, I almost fell asleep.

I agree. "Hoodum" was pretty poor, and "Lansky" was even worse. Amazing how they can take rich subject matter like that and make it boring.

I was hoping no one had seen it. It is pretty dissapointing.

But Roths view and impression of Dutch Schultz I really enjoyed.

Did Bumpy ever exist then, because I havn't found anything on him. I know that queen woman did. I found a bit on her.

Bumpy Johnson was a real person. Do a search on Google.com--you'll find several sources.

I saw Hoodlum when it first came out on video, cause I thought it might be pretty good, boy was I wrong.

like someone earlier said Andy Garcia's performance as Lucky Luciano, and Tim Roths performance as Dutch Shultz was pretty goo tho.

Interesting piece of trivia, Laurence Fishburn played the same character in Coppola's "The Cotton Club" (however, in that film he is refered to as Bumpy Rhodes).

yes Bumpy Johnson did exist, he along with Leroy Brown were instrumental in the Harlem "Mafia"... there is a book called The Enyclopedia of Gangsters or The Encylopedia of Murderers (i can't remember the exact title...it's been so long since i've read it, so don't quote me.) It has all these intersting details and stories on all of the famous and not so famous gangsters of the 20th Century.
The movie itself was lacking...Andy's performance along with Roth's was pretty good.
My favorite part of the movie...the food loving hitman brothers. I know i wasn't the only one who thought that was funny!
