I loved the Last Don, as I think it's his second best book that he has ever written. I didn't like the mini-series. Last Don was more of a modern tale of a mafia family and it's a great book and if you liked The Godfather novel and films, you'll enjoy reading the Lat Don. My recommendation is read the book before you want to see the mini-series though, as I feel the book is so much than the mini-series. Last Don is one of the best books I have ever read.

The Last Don is awesome! It had a lot of similarities with the Godfather. I'm in the middle of reading the Family. The Sicilian is also pretty good, and it talks more about Godfather characters.

Yes they have a movie for The Sicilian, as it was released in 1987 and go to http://www.imdb.com and type in The Sicilian to find more information about this motion picture.

Just had the misfortune to watch a video of The Last Don. Ouch.

From the opening credits, it just reeked of US Mini series syndrome and you knew it would be slushy.

They would have been as well to have Aaron Spelling's touch all over it.

Good enough story, will have to read the book, but the filmed version was painful.

Had not realised until now they actually had the balls to make a Last Don II as well!

Jesus, what a brass neck! Lovely little idea to try and keep Joe Montegna in the show as well.....

What is so bad about the Last Don Miniseries? I never saw it but I love the book, how could they screw it up so badly, what is wrong with it?

I personally dont think Part 1 is too bad, never seen Part 2, but what burned me the most is, aside from Danny Allio (sp) and Joe Mantegna the actors are about as um-Italian as you could possiblly get.

As I said above, it just has MINI SERIES written all over it in large neon letters. You know, the kind of thing that is produced ten to the dozen with little acting requirement.

Great story/plot, just very wooden acting throughout. Far too Spelling like in my opinion, with blood thrown in for good measure.

I also felt that the acting was mediocre and that the miniseries didn't follow the book as it should have.
