Okay, I'm just pondering this - but reading these message boards, I see all of you referring to Omerta as Puzo's last novel, while "The Family" was released in October 2001 - after Omerta. Is this because of Carol Gino's role after Puzo passed? Just hoping to understand this, seeing as I haven't read either, and was wondering why The Family is hardly recognized. Sorry if this is in the wrong catagory, I just figured it was more general Puzo, and I was referring to people on this board.

Yeah I get what you mean mate. What you've said is accurate and The Family doesn't get the recognition it deserves in my opinion. Both books are well worth reading, especially if you're a fan of Puzo, exampli gratia: The Godfather, The Sicilian etc.

By the way, even us from England don't believe all Canadians live in igloo's. Just most.

Personally I think that Omerta has alot of appeal to it since its the third in the "mafia trilogy", not to mention it was the last book completed by Puzo. The Family got alot of criticism because of another author finishing the story. Also I just heard from people who read it, that they didn't like the story. Maybe the time and setting of the story would tie into that?

That could be why... although the so-called trilogy apparently has very little ties between them. And I can understand why The Family got criticism for Carol finishing it, even if she had been with him for 20 odd years. Just being around someone doesn't give you insight into their mind. Either way, I suppose it isn't going to change. My real question is just how much Carol wrote of that book - seeing as it was released two years after his death, she could have very easily written most of it and used his name. So, I suppose, Omerta could be referred to as Puzo's last novel depending on how much of it was written by her. Anyone know?
