I say part 1 because Marlon Brando was absolutely breathtaking and I liked the ending a lot better than part 2's.

To me, Part II is just a continuation of the original. Altho it does have a couple of major unresolved plot holes, that flaw is made up for by the fantastic flashback scenes. But it's all one film as far as I'm concerned, so I can't make the distinction of which I prefer.

Oh, and BTW......Who's, um,..........never mind.

I'm with Plaw on this one. I can't really decide which one I like better. One part of me favors GFII because of the flashbacks and the history of The Corleone Family, and another part of me favors GFI because of the story of The King and his three sons, and the transformation that takes place by the one son who wants nothing to do with the family business and then rescues the family business because he is the son who is most like his father. So I guess I love em both! smile

I dont know, its a dead tie between the two, because they are almost like the same movie.

But I dont know, Beando did a pretty good job. tongue

I know I am in the minority here, but I did not like the entire flashback scenes. I felt that some of them were quite slow moving and did not advance the story as much as one would have expected for the screen time given to those scenes. However, michael's story was very strong. It was a continuation of the part 1 and showed the scale of his buisness and the fall on the personal front.
Part 1 offered great scope for each of the roles and development of each character and an inspiring story to begin with.
Both were great movies and occupy the top 2 slots in favorites list. However, if I can watch part2 a 100 times, I can watch part1 101 times. smile

Perfectly said!
Part 1 is like the true story, and 2 - like it's continuation that might well happen, but might as well not.
Flashbacks seem to me insufficient, they don't contain the most important part of family history, about how he became really great. His wars with Maranzano, Capone, Irishers, and Luca Brasi's part in them, and Sonny's bones etc.
So I must admit I like the 1 p. just a little better. smile

The happiest contest in the movie world would be to choose between GF and II. No losers.

I say the Part I as well. Between Brando, Caan, and Pacino, it was just amazing. Not to mention the Baptism scene that kicked ASS! No matter how many times I watch it, some parts of Part II are still confusing to me. I LOVE De Niro as a young Vito, but overrall, I'd take Part I anyday.

Absolutely part 1.
Marlon Brando gave part 1 this honorable Mafia touch - his acting abilities were incredible.

R.I.P Marlon frown
