Does anyone know if the film Jacknife with Robert De Niro is available on DVD, I can't find it anywhere. I've got most of his films but this one proving a problem!!

I checked Amazon.com, which says that the US and "import" versions are "currently unavailable." Often, when a book or film are out-of-print, Amazon will provide a link to vendors of used copies. But there are no such listings for "Jacknife." My only recommendation is to try e-Bay or collector sites.
Are US- and UK-issued DVDs compatible?

I don't think US and UK are compatible. Good idea to try
e-bay though, I hadn't given that a thought. Thanks.

Only if you have a region-free player. Otherwise, they will not be viewable outside of that country (or, at least, on a player not coded for that region).

This can be done away with by either purchasing a region-free player (which aren't expensive and are growing increasingly common), downloading a program to "free" your DVD-ROM drive so that it doesn't recognize region codes, or to simply burn a 1:1 copy of the movie and remove the region codes with a program.

I'm not a computer wiz, but I use a VLC media player. That might work (JJ you probably know if it would) on UK stuff

I've never used it, but it looks like what I was talking about...a region-freeing computer player.

The only drawback is that he would have to watch it on his PC exclusively; he couldn't watch the DVD on his stand-alone DVD player unless it was region-free, or unless he burned a region-free copy of the disc (which is legal, since its an archive).
