I never was much of a Beatles fan myself. My girlfriend loves them though so iamgine the discusions we have with my preference going to siantra and the crooners and herself being more of a rock fan.
I akgnowledge that the Beatles were great artists but I much perfer their writing over their actual performing. Yesterday and Something are just marvelous songs and they have deapth. I just perfer a solo performer than a group.

Their music is timeless. Much like Dylan's or Young's. I have a few months where I don't listen to them as much, but I always return. They were far too good to not listen to anymore.
Dylan taught them how to write, while they taught Dylan how to play. The perfect combo for music. Since 1965ish, the world of music has never been the same.

And you liar, teller of tall tales: you trample all the Lord's commandments underfoot, you murder, steal, commit adultery, and afterward break into tears, beat your breast, take down your guitar and turn sin into a song. Shrewd devil, you know very well that God pardons singers no matter what they do, because he can simply die for a song.

Yea, like SC, I was around when they were new, and have always liked their music. I don't listen them every day either, but a local radio station has a 2 hour segment here they call "Beatle Brunch" that they air every Sunday morning. For me, it not only brings back memories of "the era", but I enjoy hearing their music still and have an appreciation of just how talented they are/were. I kick myself when in 1965 they were appearing in Detroit (Cobo Hall I think) and I had an opportunity to go, but couldn't because my sister was graduating from high school, and I "had" to go. TIS

But the great strength of the Fab Four was in the quality of their songwriting. No Beatles album is devoid of a great song, and most have more than one. My favorite, "Rubber Soul," still holds up superbly because of the great songs supported by simple, elegant arrangements.

DVC, you are a horrible human being. Let your sins burn in Hell, heathen.
Now, to be serious, I don't really know what to say. I've NEVER had a problem listening to The Beatles, with the exception of their early "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" pop stuff. I can't stand the Beatles pre-Rubber Soul, and there are only a few songs from that era that I like. However, in my eyes, their later, psychedelic/prog-rock sound is some of the best music I have ever heard. It's so good, I can't even settle on a favorite album... But as of about 3:30 yesterday afternoon, I think I've settled on Magical Mystery Tour after giving it a long absence from my ears.
They just never get old.

That was the album that made the critics start taking them seriously, instead of treating them as the "mop-tops" and as just another popular phe-nom. That was when they were at their creative peak, IMO, with three all-time brilliant albums in a row: "Help!" "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver."
