Was Frank Sinatra mad at Mario Puzo because puzo made a character based on him??
And is Sonny based on Albert Anastaina??

1. It depends on who you listen to. Some published reports show Sinatra was very upset about his "representation" in the novel. Others don't.

About three years ago Carol Gino, Mario Puzo's companion, was here on the boards answering questions for us. I asked her about a supposed confrontation between Puzo and Sinatra. Here's a link to that discussion:

Sonny was not based on Albert Anastasia. Anastasia was a long-reigning Don; Sonny never made Don. The only similarity was that both had hot tempers.

The acting Don. In the novel, Sonny volunteers to go to the meeting with Sollozzo and McCluskey. Hagen says that Sollozzo "wouldn't let you near him if he had 10 police captains. Besides, as the acting Don, you can't be risked."
