Special Weather Statement - SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR BERGEN COUNTY VALID FROM THU FEB 09 2006 10:30 PM EST UNTIL FRI FEB 10 2006 06:30 AM EST.
NORTHERN FAIRFIELD-NORTHERN NEW HAVEN-NORTHERN MIDDLESEX- NORTHERN NEW LONDON-SOUTHERN FAIRFIELD-SOUTHERN NEW HAVEN- SOUTHERN MIDDLESEX-SOUTHERN NEW LONDON-WESTERN PASSAIC-BERGEN- EASTERN PASSAIC-ESSEX-HUDSON-UNION-ORANGE-PUTNAM-ROCKLAND- NORTHERN WESTCHESTER-SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER-NEW YORK (MANHATTAN)- BRONX-RICHMOND (STATEN ISLAND)-KINGS (BROOKLYN)-QUEENS-NASSAU- NORTHWESTERN SUFFOLK-NORTHEASTERN SUFFOLK-SOUTHWESTERN SUFFOLK- SOUTHEASTERN SUFFOLK- 1030 PM EST THU FEB 9 2006 ...POTENT WINTER STORM LIKELY TO EFFECT THE REGION SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY... AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE UP THE CAROLINA COASTAL PLAIN SATURDAY...THEN STRENGTHEN AS IT MOVES NORTHEAST TO NEAR CAPE COD BY MIDDAY SUNDAY. PLENTY OF COLD AIR WILL ALREADY BE IN PLACE AHEAD OF THE STORM...THIS COUPLED WITH A LARGE AMOUNT OF GULF OF MEXICO AND ATLANTIC MOISTURE BEING PUMPED INTO THE REGION AHEAD OF THE STORM...COULD CAUSE A SIGNIFICANT TO POTENTIALLY MAJOR SNOW EVENT ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION. CURRENTLY EXPECT SNOW TO BEGIN TO FALL BY LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON...THEN BECOME STEADIER AND HEAVIER SATURDAY NIGHT. THE SNOW MAY MIX WITH RAIN ACROSS EASTERN LONG ISLAND LATE SATURDAY NIGHT. THE SNOW SHOULD TAPER OFF FROM EAST TO WEST ACROSS MOST OF THE REGION BY AROUND MIDDAY SUNDAY. IN ADDITION THE STORM IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE VERY STRONG NORTHEAST WINDS WHICH COULD CAUSE NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AT TIMES. COASTAL FLOODING WILL BE A POSSIBILITY AS WELL. THERE STILL IS SOME UNCERTAINTY AS TO THE EXACT TIMING AND HOW CLOSE TO THE COAST THE LOW WILL TRACK. IF THE LOW MOVES FURTHER OFFSHORE LESS SNOW WILL OCCUR OVER INLAND LOCATIONS...A TRACK FURTHER INLAND COULD BRING MORE OF A MIX OR CHANGE TO RAIN INTO THE PICTURE. CURRENT EXPECTATIONS ARE FOR A SIGNIFICANT TO MAJOR SNOWFALL OF 6 INCHES OR MORE ACROSS LONG ISLAND...NEW YORK CITY...NORTHEASTERN NEW JERSEY...SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT...AND THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY. A FOOT OR MORE IS CERTAINLY NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION. WINTER STORM WATCHES MAY NEED TO BE ISSUED OVERNIGHT.

Just south of me. Pisses me off too, because I have Monday off and wouldn't like to have to shovel that day. Hopefully it will stay south....or some north around Tuesday.

Well, the last time I posted a "Winter Storm Warning" for the Tri-State Area, we didn't get anything.

Its time to get serious. Tell him you're gonna practice your neutering skills on him if he doesn't propose.

Lori's and my shift ends at 4 a.m. (Sunday morning). We'll be leaving at the height of the storm.... there's no way I wanna spend the next day at the office (but I may bring a change of clothes).

Its looking more likely that this storm is gonna be a doozie. Vercetti - you're not out of the woods ... Just Lou's statement may not have included your area but thats because its a localized statement. Get your shovel ready! You'll be right in the middle of all this.

Whats kind of scary is that just two days ago everyone was calling for just a chance of flurries. Now its being reported that a foot of snow is possible.

change of clothes, sleeping bag and pillow for me. im one of the furthest employees from my job, yet i have never missed work due to snow. and judging from the past, ill need to be there to make up for the absent bodies. my boss is awesome tho, if i wanted to i could book myself a room for the 2 days and hed cover it it pays to show your loyalty to a company

You have a good boss. Our place will put some employees up in a local hotel but we'd have to checkout of the rooms by 10:30 a.m. Hell, we get off work at 4:00 a.m. and then we'd have to be up and out by 10:30? (And we're supposed to go back to work). Its not a very attractive offer.

Its times like this that I wish I had a 4 wheel drive car.

(j/k) :p

Seriously....I consider you to be an intelligent woman. Maybe you (or someone else) can explain to me what it is about writing on message boards and in IMs and such that has made people think that it's acceptable to use this "form" (I know that it even actually has a name, but I forget what it is)?

A word here and there that everyone knows, like "prolly" or "ppl", or a phrase like BTW or IMO or AAMOF, I can understand. I'm guilty of that myself, and consider it nothing more than an abbreviation.

But I've also read stuff that was practically unintelligble to me.

Drives me nuts.

OK, that's my rant for today.

Don't be making fun of my grrl!!

It's called shorthand, I suppose. Less keystrokes the better for some people. Not everyone is a superior typist like you. [*cough* ] :p

Don't worry, Flame - I got your back!! I'll ban'm if you want!

"Fewer" keystrokes. :p

No, not "shorthand." There's another name for it that I've heard used.

Must be heavy-duty. They're even predicting 2"-6" for Memphis, and usually all we ever get is rain.

Can't wait!!!

It just happense I went food shopping last night (before hearing about the impending blizzard) so we don't have to 'hoard' like many will be doing this evening.

And for the first time in many years, I'm glad this is coming over a weekend, so no work/school closings to worry about.

Of course,I suppose we'll be digging out the car on Sunday afternoon...

My wife's from Chicago, so she gets a charge out of all us "Southern folk" running to the grocery and stocking up like we're going to be stranded for days. Of course, up there, I'm sure they just break out the snow plows and life goes on. But it paralyzes us poor, dumb Southern folk!

Yeah....and it ALWAYS seems to be the same items: milk, chips, eggs, bread and in the case of my sister, OREO'S !!!

I have to admit there is something fun about being cozy inside your home, well fed, while watching a storm take its course. I think we'll bake pumpkin bread during this next nor'easter.

There's bound to be a good stand-up comic routine on that (if it's not already been done, and it probably has). I can just see Jerry Seinfeld saying, "And what's the deal with invading the grocery store when winter weather moves in?"

I vaguely remember Johnny Carson joking about that sort of thing in one of his monologues many years ago.

Of course, that would've probably been when The Tonight Show was still out of New York, as those in CA would have no such worries!!

Yeah, I miss ol' Johnny. Poor Jay will never measure up. My oh my, how we've digressed! Ah, who cares? If it snows, it snows. Let it snow (sounds like that oughta' be a song).

I miss Johnny, too...missed him even before he died last year!! In fact, just typing the name and seeing it there on the screen gave me a twinge of nostalgia!!

Speaking of which...the DVD he put out years ago depicting best moments from his Tonight Show years is really terrific, some of the FUNNIEST stuff you'll ever see.

Probably a good thing to watch when you're stuck inside during a blizzard...!!

[/b][/quote]now to discuss the way that I type as well as the way that I write my notes. It'S just quicker FOR me to abbreviate and cut corners where I can and its bEcome a habit; however, magically when I am writing in a patient's file or typing an email to my boss I do switch back to proper spelling and punctuation.

that whole craze with typing "ppl" and "imho" bEcame popular when I was in highschool, back when AOL was still in the 2.0-5.0 updates. I guess old habitS die hard.

FOR you and only you plaw I will make a conscious effort to spell and punctuate correctly...one caveat though, despite the fact that I am using them in this post, I will not capitalize...everyone has their quirks
