As a twist on the "Who would play the characters if the Trilogy were remade today?", who do you guys think would play the characters if the movies were remade into a musical and what would be their characters' hit solo?

My first one would be Fredo singing "I Didn't Know it was Gonna be a Hit" sung by John Travolta (closer description to the book).

Johhny Fontaine, a part made famous by Al Martino, will of course, be played by Tony Bennett. lol

Well....

I envision a big, "We're gonna-go-to-war..." type of production number prior to Michael's shooting of Sollozzo.

Reminiscent of The Marx Bros. in Duck Soup.

Picture it....Tom, Sonny, Mike, Fredo front & center stage, flanked by Tessio & Clemenza.

A-hidy, hidy, hidy, hidy, hidy, hidy, ho!!!

Awesome.

1. "I Believe in America"- Sung by Bonasera and Vito in the office

2. "We're in the wedding of the year!" Sung by Guests

3. "Act like a man!" Perormed by Vito

The school bell rang. To be continue...

I can see it now: Michael, right before he kills Sollozo, goes into a solo opera like song, expressing his feelings about making his bones. How he is nervous, yet eager. The stage fades to black while a spotlight is on Michael. Then the lights come up, he kills both men, then he drops the gun, drops a loud note, and then runs off into the night.

Of course, there would have to be a tumultuous number when Kay 'leaves' Michael:

K: 'It was an A-BOR-TION....!! You are BLIND..!!'

M: 'You won't take my CHIL-DREN...!!!'

K: 'They are MY chil-dren TOO....'

cool

Don Sicilia,

My compliments, this is an amusing premise that hasn't come up before (surprisingly).

I envision the GF opening with the wedding scene and a mini-operetta, montage of songs:

Vito, played by Meatloaf, sings the main theme, simply "My Daughter's Wedding". Interspersed we meet the family and the supporting characters (like the movie), but each comes in with their own signature songs and melody that repeats throughout the musical. Michael, played by Antonio Banderas, sings "That's My Family Kay" and Kay, played by Jewel, sings "I'm Just a WASP from New England." Sonny, played by Michael Bolton, belts out "Line Up Those Bridesmaids." Clemenza, played by Luciano Pavarotti entertains the wedding guests with "More Wine." Singing off in the shadows is Fredo, played by Tom Petty who opens with "This is My Brother Mike." Connie, played by Shania Twain purrs to Carlo, "I Like it When You Hit Me." Harry Connick Jr. comes in for a cameo, doing the Johnny Fontane stuff. And the guy who finishes off the big number is Tom Hagen, played by Don Henley, "I'm On My Way to Hollywood."
