Kay asked michael why are the drapes open implying that they were suppose to be or were closed. Then Michael makes a weird look right when kays says that as if he knows they are suppose to be close. I am wondering who opened the drapes.

Welcome to the Boards! This topic is been a debate for a long time among GF fans. Some say it was Fredo, while others claim anyone from Johnny Ola's men to the actual hitmen who attempted to kill Michael. For more theories and past posts, go to "Search" at the top of the screen.

Welcome Lost Don enjoy your stay smile

Goombah is right, this is a 'hot potato' round these parts and many discussions have been had. I think it probably was Fredo who opened the curtains, but he was too weak and stupid not to realise it was 'gonna be a hit' wink

To me drapes were the reason Mike survived that shooting. Roth was trying to kill Michael and he used Fredo to carry out his plan. You can assume either Fredo or Johnny's men had opened the drapes because it was a crowded day and any of them could have done that. Fredo's betrayal seemed to be more than just opening the drapes in my opinion but it sure wouldn't hurt if you want to assume it was Fredo who opened the drapes.

Here is the latest thread we were talking about the Lake Tahoe shooting:

I, too, think it was Fredo. You might argue that, with hundreds of people at the party, anyone (like Johnny Ola's men) could have gotten into the house and opened the drapes. But I'm also assuming that, because hundreds of people were there, Michael would have posted guards at his house to keep light-fingered guests from entering, wandering around, making off with things. Notice that during the party, Rocco is keeping a constant lookout. But Fredo wouldn't have had any difficulty getting past Rocco or any guards.

I too believe it was Fredo, for reasons stated by Turnbull. But that brings up the argument of weither or not Fredo knew it was going to be a hit. I remember reading something in an earlier draft or something like that that to suggest Fredo really didnt know it was going to be a hit.He was told by Roth that they were just planning to kidnap Mike, but not kill him. I f Fredo really believed that, then why would he open the drapes?

Don Sonny brings up a very plausible theory.

If we can believe Fredo's two statements of innocence/ignornance "I didn't know it was gonna be a hit Mike." (or he could have been lying to save his ass) AND the early-morning wake up call from Johnny Ola, "you guys got me in enough trouble", which implies Fredo didn't know what was going on.

Knowing these two statement by Fredo, it's hard to believe that Fredo would have opened the drapes. For what reason he might ask; so Johnny Ola could see Kay undress? and wouldn't Kay have closed the drapes to undress for bed? Are we to believe someone entered the room after she dozed off? We can assume that Fredo had uncontested access to the house and maybe Michael's room, but its just as plausible for one of Michael's guards to have been bought off by Johnny Ola.

The theory we eventually came up with the last time was that Fredo knew there was something going on to the extend of kidnapping and he opened the drapes so Johnny's men could see Mike enters the room without any guards. That quite explains "you guys lied to me" and "I didn't know it was going to be a hit". What makes me surprised is that how Fredo thought he would get away with such a thing, but then I think, that's Fredo, you know. wink
