hurricane wilma has been changed to a category 5 with wind at 175 mph and looks like its gunna hit southern florida

According to barometric readings taken a few hours ago its the most intense hurricane EVER recorded in the Atlantic basin.

On the "positive" side (if there is such a thing) it will weaken before making landfall.

Wow. Last night it was a 1, and was projected to strengthen to a 2 or 3.

A lot of Florida is still rebuilding from last year!

I sure hope it does weaken significantly - not only because of the potential devastation we witnessed recently - but that projected path is heading straight for my folks' place. At least they're on the east coast of Florida. But I do have friends on the west coast as well, and they probably won't be as lucky at this rate...

And God forbid that changes paths toward the north!

My dad also lives in Florida. I don't know with his health problems if he can handle packing and leaving again like he did several times last year.

Thank God I don't live in the Everglades and on the west coast. Those poor shmucks are really in for a fun time.

The Atlantic coast isn't out of the woods yet. There's a better than even chance that Wilma will cross from Gulf coast to Atlantic.

There were some computers that showed that this hurricane could possibly cross the florida keys, go back into the gulf, and then turn back across Florida and go over to the Atlantic coast and then make it's way up north.

Do you realize that I've had four days off since school started on the 8th of Agust because of Hurricanes.
This might bite into my holiday season vacation.

Anyhow JG, escorting is a way to get money through decent, hard work. Buddy, I emphesize the word, "Hard". We're (My JROTC Unit) gonna be hearding people for a huge regional band competition. Pay back for the bands past generosity with us.

Wilma is down to CAT-2 now as it pummels Sully in the Miami area -- luckily it's moving thru quickly!

Heard from my folks today -- they got rocked, but their complex didn't seem to sustain any major damage and they're okay. My mom said she felt the building shake (they're on the 13th floor)! Like a lot of the state, they lost electricity, probably for most of the week, though.

Wilma is now heading right towards New England! Tomorrow's not gonna be a nice day...

Wilma is supposed to meet up with some other storm coming down from the North and create a superstorm over the Northeast. I believe that "not nice" may prove to be an understatement.

It has been raining here for 3 days now non stop. Winter will be here before you know it.

Luckily, none of that ever happened -- at least not here! *whew*

I don't know how you guys do it... We're such wimps out here-- I try not to leave the house when it rains, and my classes are more than half empty when it's drizzling out because no one shows up, and here you guys are, going about your business in the snow and sleet. I've even had professors who cancel class on rainy days because either they don't want to leave the house, or they know no one else is going to show up. :rolleyes: I can't imagine rain and snow being so common that you actually get that used to it.

I just checked this month's weather history (Philadelphia, close enough), and so far this month we've had 11 days of some precipitation, and only 7 days of perfectly clear weather. And it's supposed to rain a couple more days before the month ends.

And then next month, we get to look forward to temperatures between 30s-50s on average - and it won't even be winter yet.
