I came across this sometime ago (came out maybe a half a year ago) and just recently previewed some tracks on it and all I can say is...

Is he serious?

Well he does a lot of the old classics, (which I'm a fan of if not sung by him) such as "When you're smiling" and "It had to be you". It's not the music I'm knocking...I am a big Dean Martin fan. It's just his singing is just terrible. Apparently he did some kind of singing back when he was younger. I don't know if he was decent back then or was just always bad. Either way he really shouldn't have released another album.

Does anybody else remember Philbin as Joey Bishop's sidekick? Bishop, one of Frank Sinatra's rat-pack in Vegas, hosted a late night talk show on ABC in the 60's. Just like anyone else who went head-to-head against Johnny Carson the show failed after a short time. Regis Philbin was to Bishop as Ed McMahon was to Carson (a sidekick).

Anyway, Philbin was (IMO) an overrated non-talent then and he still is today. I'm sure some people will still buy that CD, though.

This is even worse than when Bill Shatner tried to put out an album (Which wasn't that bad, actually)...

"Somebody told me when the bomb hits, everybody in a two mile radius will be instantly sublimated, but if you lay face down on the ground for some time, avoiding the residual ripples of heat, you might survive, permanently fucked up and twisted like you're always underwater refracted. But if you do go gas, there's nothing you can do if the air that was once you is mingled and mashed with the kicked up molecules of the enemy's former body. Big-kid-tested, motherf--ker approved."

If William Shatner can have an album, why not Regis.

I love the Great American Songbook. Anytime someone records something from this book that was composed by the likes of Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and Co, I thank God that this music has lasted so long and still applies to life today.

Seeing musicians like Bubble, Chris Botti and those folks really make my day, however inferiour they are to the likes of Nat Cole, Frank Sinatra, etc.

The key word here is "musician". Regis Philbin is just a talk show host, and really has no place in recording these standards.

Yes, I agree. I think Michael Buble is the best out right now for that genre of music (Under 30 that is). I saw him in concert 2 years ago, he was great. You still also have Tony Bennett (who turns 80 in August) still performing. I also saw him about 2 years ago in concert, which I'm glad I got chance to see him before he goes. Anyone knows if Jerry Vale still performs? (if he does I'm assuming it's just in Vegas) He's one that I'd really like to see in concert sometime.
