This may belong in sports, but the NCAA has taken "political correctness" way too far in this recent ruling about Indian related mascots. As a Florida State alum, I am particularly offended that they would want to do away with our logo and mascot because it "offends" the Seminoles . The truth is the tribe in Florida gets a piece of all the merchandising money, they have approved everything the school does with the mascot, and the school has a special scholarship program set up with the tribe.

Further, I dont see anyone going after Notre Dame, whose nickname is the "Fighting Irish." As an Irish American should I be offended by their mascot --- a little green leprechaun always looking for a fight? Isnt that an ethnic stereotype?

When people graduate from college and they can't even speak one coherent sentence, when there is rape, drug use, crime steroids and god knows what else going on in college athletics these days, it is amazing to me that the NCAA would do something this stupid.

Political correctness insanity is not just limited to the NCAA or the USA. One of the latest here was a call from an MP to call any type of failure in schools as a 'deferred success'.

IMO using Seminole is a tribute; a "mascot" that shows strength and competitive spirit. After all the mascot is suppose to symbolize the athletic spirit of the school.

I agree that names like "Redskin" should be dropped because the origins were from derogatory slang. Actually I think Washington should keep the name Redskin and have the potato as their mascot .

My fave is calling fat people "horizontally challenged"

Or better yet, my favorite terms given to the practices of Enron and Worldcom that led to their infamous bankrupcies:

"Creative Accounting" and of course..."Creative Honesty"
