In the brief time I have been on these boards, I have learned a great deal about the Godfather movies and have read some brilliant posts. Unfortunately most of what I see being posted is a bunch of insipid subject matters posted by people who obviously have not read the novel or seen the movies. While some of it can be amusing, I think it is mostly a waste of time. The Games thing has gotten totally out of control, and the General Discussion area is nothing more than a right wing Echo chamber in which opposing views are met with derision and personal attacks.

So to all of you, your are gonna get no more trouble from me.

Seriously, while it's sad to see dontom go I respect his reasons for being a bit disgusted. If the dopey games thing had been this prominent when I came on, I probably would've checked out before long myself.

As for General Discussion, true it can and does get pretty intense. Choices are to stay away from the forum completely or join in and be able to develop a thick enough skin to share your views and not be afraid of backlash. Some can handle it, some cannot.

I know what you mean, but you always have a choice. But the most important of all is your contribution to the trilogy forum. I always liked your posts especially the humorous ones.

I too am sorry to see you go DT. I think you're a good poster and have some valid opinions. I understand not liking certain threads and/or maybe posters, but like TB says, if you stay away it's not a problem. I know however, sometimes it's so hard to do especially in a political thread where everyone has strong opinions, and anyone on the political "left" is outnumbered and an easy mark to attack. Keeping "cool" is the key I think.

At any rate, it's your choice and good luck to you.

Well to those specific "kids" I attacked, thanks alot for driving away a cool cat in DT. Really, I hope he comes back to this place when it is civil in political debate and hell, in movie/mob chat.

It's virtually impossible for some political debates to remain civil. Too many strong feelings on either side and too much to be taken personally for the meek of heart. And too much freedom to post on this veil of anonymity called the Internet things that many of us would never say to each other in person.

As for the mob/movie discussions, they can and SHOULD be fun more than anything else. It's a shame that some cannot simply focus on those forums and disregard what goes on in the others when things get too crazy.

With all due respect, there was absolutely no need for you to post that. But being that you did I am now going to respond to it.

NO ONE is responsible for making a grown man or woman make their own decisions. Especially on an internet board. He clearly stated that he does not like the games thread, so do we blame the people that post in those game threads for making him leave. I don't think so. He clearly said that he found the Godfather thread had become repetitious and boring to him, so do we blame the new members for his decision to leave? That wouldn't be fair. He talked about his dislike of the General Discussion for it's political agendas at times, and how he was dissatisfied with those discussions. However he himself took partook in a large number of those discussions and he also was the topic starter for many of them. So to point fingers at other members here because someone decided that they no longer want to be part of our family is not fair in my eyes.

It just so happens that I personally enjoyed his posts in the Godfather Thread, his posts in some of the other threads, and I enjoyed debating with him on the political issues that arose in the general discussion area. I am going to miss him also but by the same token I would not balme ANYONE here for his departure. He is a grown man who made a grownup decision all by himself. Therefore I see no reason to blame ANYONE here for his decision to leave.

I agree with Turnbull's advice of ignoring what you don't like, but that's easier said than done when it's an issue that you feel strongly about.
