Can you name a Republican who has ever gone through that? ... I am a Republican. I am also a single mother, and have been for the past six years. I am also an ordinary working person who has to work 8+ hours a day. I make an honest living and have been doing so for the past 25 or so years. Each year on Election Day, I drop my daughter off at school and then stop at the local voting poll and cast my vote for democracy. Takes about 5 minutes. Then...I go to work. Apple ps - I learned many years ago, even before becoming a mother...to do my voting early in the morning...that way even in a Presidential year, you really do get in & out and leave the long lines for people who wait until the evening (after grabbing that quick sandwich, I suppose).

We all became familiar with his annoying mantra about his father working in a mill, etc. Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton were a few others who despite the heights they reached, most certainly were raised in 'working class' families. There are plenty more. Apple

SB, Although it hasn't been the case for me the last few years, and I can't say I've waited 4 hours, but I "have" waited a two hours (and more) before, due to long lines. And yes, I do wait because I take voting very seriously, as should everyone. Whether or not these waits are few and far between, I don't know. I would have bitched a long long time ago, if the two hour wait was every single year. Btw, it's my understanding that your employer "must" give you time to vote, should you decide to do it during the work day. TIS

My guess would be that the minority are those who WERE raised with Silver Spoons...like Bush, Kennedy, Kerry. Interesting topic, though. Apple

That is an interesting question. I have always thought and/or heard that most of our Presidents have been wealthy. For the fun of it I tried a search on the "wealthiest Presidents" and couldn't come up with anything. Don't have time now to persue it. Maybe someone else does. If I had to "guess", I'd say more than half, but what do I know. :p TIS

I don't know if a site exists that depicts wealthy vs. middle class vs. poor in terms of U.S. Presidents. But this link provides a mini-biography of all of them, and I guess for someone who has the time it will be pretty easy to decipher which were children of privilege and which were not. http://www.whitehouse.gov/history/presidents Apple

My wife used to lose her mind when Kathee Lee Gifford used to talk about how tough it was for her to juggle a TV show and raise kids. My wife would say "Is she kidding me? " Why doesn't she talk about a real single working mom who has to get up and get herself ready for work, get the kids ready for daycare and school, make their lunches, get them off to school and then get herself to work. All without any help from a nanny, husband or a maid. That's a real working mom! She should be in that situation and then she'd have a right to complain." Well I guess that there is the real world for the working mom, and then the real world for the Cathee Lee's! Don Cardi

Taking a little "time-out" from what might become yet another heated discussion, I found this link with info on the Presidents, including the following info: 15 born into wealth and 7 come from poverty; However under occupations, 24 have been lawyers and 32 have graduated (I presume) from college. Some are blank, so I'm not sure if it's not known or what. If you want to know who had facial hair, look no further. :p TIS Presidents

Snappy answers to stupid statements (ala MAD Magazine) Apparently, you are not alone. So does Mrs. Dean. ok hes not mlk when it comes to leadership I'd liken him more to Jesse Jackson, on crack. but hes what the democrats, no, hes what the country needs---The Truth--- I guess if you believe in his version of "treuth" the only reason that criminal is still in office is because the recently lousy democratic party sends out Mr. and Mrs. Politically Correct (kerry-edwards) Shit! You mean he didn't get elected because the majority of American citizens voted for him? Sumbitch! so now dean whove i liked all the way I would've never guessed. all the other democratic leaders are acting like pussies and wont stand behind what he is saying. Wait...so the democrats are acting like female sex organs? I think that's an insult to the female sex organ. i want to take down the rep. more than anybody Would've never guessed. judging from all this the truth is not something the gop really wants to handle What? Whitewater? What? Cattle futures? What? College grades? What? Voting records in the senate? What? Oooohkaaaay! Sincerely, Double-J

It's really interesting...if you see it somewhere, it's a good one to pick up. The one I have is from 1998 though, so there's no GWB in there. I don't know if there's a new one out, but it's still good. It's got info on vice presidents and Congressmen, too.

Apparently, you are not alone. So does Mrs. Dean. i hope, could be a stretch though I guess if you believe in his version of "treuth" just like i said, the gop cannot handle the truth Shit! You mean he didn't get elected because the majority of American citizens voted for him? Sumbitch! Ummm, I know he got elected. Why did he get elected? Well I think I already answered that. The New York Yankees are often called the evil empire. It would be like sending in a high school team to try and take them down---theyd be scared stiff. I m not saying that Kerry was scared-i think hes is a great man & I voted for him- but ur not going to change anything by always saying what ppl always want to hear. And Edwards, he now is trying to take back every word Dean is saying. And hes telling the world, "Dean is not our voice" Well guess what no 1 else is Im not saying I want Dean to be the president but he is a voice the World desperatly needed
