Check out the Organized Crime - Real Life area. There's a whole thread about mob books. Lot's of good recommendations on there. If you're looking for basics, why not try The Idiot's Guide to the Mafia or Playboy's Illustrated History of Organized Crime? The former just came out with a second editon and the latter is out of print, but easily found on ebay.

Never heard of the book you asked about though.

It's a little bit of both. It's certainly not a comprehensive history, but it covers the basics pretty well.

"Mobsters and Gangsters" has some swell photos, but the text and organization suck. Check out cancerkitty's advice.

Which mafia book is really enjoyable reading? Because the only one decent book I can think of is Donnie brasco, being better than the film.

I really enjoyed Wiseguy (may be printed as Goodfellas these days).
