Who would you call one of the worse, if not your worse director? Mine (or at least one of mine) Tim Burton. Sure some of his films I like, but many I don't and I feel he's totally overrated as are some of his films!

Likes
-Pee Wee's Big Adventure
-Batman
-Batman Returns
-Sleep Hollow (to an extent)

Dislikes
-Beetle Juice
-Edward Scissorhands
-The Nightmare Before Christmas (for writing it)
-Plane of the Apes
-Big Fish (Haven't seen it, but it looked so dumb from the commerials)

I did not care for Big Fish. I do though think that Tim Burton is a great director.

I woke up this morning with nothing to do and went to bed with only half of it done.

Irishman, Tim Burton?!?!?! Man you need to quit the sauce, amigo.

No here is my list for worst directors:

RENNY HARLIN

The Finnish director of such clunkers as CUTTHROAT ISLAND, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4, DRIVEN, EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING(though the soon-to-be released original Paul Schrader-helmed prequel sounds solid good), CLIFFHANGER, etc. Not to mention easily the weakest film of the DIE HARD film series. Really, what a loser.

MICHAEL BAY

Scratch my last comment. Mr. Bay is the real loser here. Besides the fact that he over-directs and over-edits like a retarded 9 year old punk kid with ADHD, hes got the financial and Hollywood clout to get whatever stars/actors he desires in his movies, plus whatever the hell he wants, but the end result is that its absolutely mediocre or worse, terrible films.

Thing is, THE ROCK is easily his best film and maybe the only one of his that might be tolerated. But such clunkers as ARMAGGEDON and PEARL HARBOR, plus the overlong BAD BOYS 2(by about at least 40 minutes) and the so-so(at best) original BAD BOYS.

OF course, knowing the situation, Irishman(sorry, but its my cost-risk analysis of your future) or somebody else here will try to defend this turkey as a filmmaker on how "his films are great popcorn entertainment". What's that? Oh ya, that is the sound of somebody insulting my intelligence. Many retards at IMDB keep saying how since Bay left Jerry Bruckheimer to direct THE ISLAND for this summer that he'll quit being an ass clown and direct a worthy film. Really, I'm all for the guy to make a really good non-retarded-mental-constructed film, but knowing his past history, he will still fail.

UWE BOLL

Harlin at best is a serviceble director, while Bay makes very lame movies while his over-editing/retarded screenplays(by his army of writers)/over-directing is juvenile-practiced at best, Uwe Boll the German just can't direct. Really, when his HOUSE OF THE DEAD is considered by many to be among the worst ever, plus ALONE IN THE DARK possibly getting the worst reviews for any movie this year(so far). Not to mention both absolutely bombing.

Anyway, any of you ever seen a Ed Wood film? Sure hes inept, but hes not as bad as some other filmmakers' crap-masterpieces I've seen.

I really enjoyed Big Fish. I thought it was one of the better movies to have come out in the last few years.

My worst director would have to be Coleman Francis. His movie Night Train to Munde Fine (AKA Red Zone Cuba) is probably the worst thing I've ever seen.

Is Guy Ritchie a director? If so I'd say him for putting his wife in a movie.

Yes, he's a director, a pretty good one in my opinion, and yes, putting Madonna in his movie was a bad movie.

However have you ever seen his short film he made for BMW featuring his wife (available at bmwfilms.com ) It's quite hilarous. I also enjoyed his two other films, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch quite a bit.

I haven't seen any of his movies. I really don't have any one director I think is bad. His putting Madonna in a movie just put him at the top of my list.

Irishman, are you fucking kidding? First of all, don't rate a movie you didn't even see. Big Fish is great. Could've been better, but great. I love the 8 1/2 nods.

I think he's a good director and his gothic style is beautiful in films. You may think he's overrated, but among worst? Please.

Not to mention The Fast and the Furious.

As for Scott, here's films I've seen.

Top Gun
Revenge
True Romance (bad direction, good script)
Days of Thunder
The Fan
Man on Fire

The best is True Romance for me at ***. The rest are bad. Revenge is a guilty pleasure for me because of Anthony Quinn, but it's horrible. The editing in Man on Fire did it's desired job on me, by making me forget the shitty simplicity of the plot by styling it up. I also hate how Scott ruined Tarantino's end to True Romance by turning straight into mainstream.

Ed Wood is in no way the worst. Sure, his films were terribly made, but at least they were so bad, they were good and fun to watch. Other directors just plain stink. Real busy now, will post who
later.

I disagree Young Don Vercetti. You have much to learn, my padawan.

Thing is, Tarantino's script for TRUE ROMANCE is its own tale, while Scott's presentation of it(or chronilogically re-ordering the original non-linear script into a lineal narration) is its own identity. Anyway, I think Scott's change of QT's ending actually works for the movie that Scott made. Hell, even Tarantino agreed.

But thats the thing right there. For the form and style of film that Scott churned out, his ending is perfect. But QT obviously wouldn't have made the same style of film, and his ending would assumingly have been correct for it.

Still, the movie is indeed Tony Scott's career best. Now most of Ridley Scott's kid brother's career movies are not much. I really hated TOP GUN and DAYS OF THUNDER(which itself is to NASCAR like GUN was to the U.S. AirForce). I didn't care for the self-admitted CONVERSATION-influenced ENEMY OF THE STATE(which is basically the brainless blockbuster film retelling of Coppola's minor 70's-classic).

Not to mention that I felt that MAN ON FIRE actually had a decent solid script. The problem was that Scott's style of direction and editing(which he seems to have reused for his latest, DOMINO) is just WAY TOO MUCH for moi. Really, Scott pulled a Michael Bay there. As for REVENGE, THE LAST BOY SCOUT, THE FAN, CRIMSON TIDE.....Yawn.

Of course, the only other Scott-helmed films that I liked besides TRUE ROMANCE were BEVERLY HILLS COP 2(which itself was a stylishly-shot decent action/comedy blockbuster sequel) and THE HUNGER. THE LAST BOY SCOUT, THE FAN, CRIMSON TIDE.....Yawn.

I thought Tarantino was disappointed at it. He said he asked Scott to use his and Scott told him he would know on the day of the premiere.

Young padawan? Fuck you!

Nasty mouth, you punk. When your basketballs "drop", then you can eat at the big kids' table :p

Anyway my padawan, if QT said that, then he lied aplenty on that pretty good SE DVD that WB put out for TRUE ROMANCE(for which he did produce a pretty darn good commentary track). Anyway, QT apparently enjoyed the movie and liked it, but still considering his very-pissed-off opinion he has for Oliver Stone's treatment to his NATURAL BORN KILLERS script, its easy to see why.

Of course, its hard when a screenplay you poured your creative energy into is not helmed as a film by you but by someone else. The best that can be hoped for is that the movie is pretty good and not "pants".

Geoff, Plaw, Turnbull and SC. You guys need to answer this one. Tell me who am I thinking about when the subject of Worst Director comes up?

As a matter of fact worst "gangster"movie ever made, worst writing for a gangster movie, worst acting in a gangster movie, worst sequel ever made!

Not on the sauce now, that's only on the weekends. And I'm not saying he's the worst director of all time (and I probably should have worded this better) but he's my least favorite director, let's put it that way

Top Gun?! BH Cop II?! Days of Thunder? Hilarious.

The highest I rate one of his films is ***, and that's True Romance. Man on Fire was mediocre, and used the editing ridiculously too much, probably to cover the simple plot.

Burton, while not one of the best directors, makes great movies, all of them good or bad with great visuals. Batman and Big Fish are great movies. Most of what you just listed are B-movies, Irish. I'll take Ridley over him.

I liked Crimson Tide, I thought Man on Fire and Beverly Hill Cop II were alright, and I hated Top Gun and what I saw of Days of Thunder, but haven't seen the rest of his films. From what I've seen he's pretty mediocre.

Still need to rent True Romance.

Again that's just your own personal opinion. But I'd rather take Scott's "B movies" than Burton's "A movies"
