Okay, so this is a weird question - but does anyone know if the Port Authority on 42nd Street (NYC) has lockers??? The website doesn't say - I guess I may have to call. I thought someone here might know?

I've been there a few times, and I can't really remember if they do or not. If they do I doubt they'd be very safe.

Good point.

I'm still wondering though - if anybody knows please let me know. Thanks!

Was a matta wit chu! Didn't you ever see the movie Once Upon A Time In America?

Seriously though, I recall reading that after Sept. 11th, the PA removed or cosed down the lockers for security reasons, as they were afraid that someone could leave an explosive in the lockers. Not sure if they put them back though, but I highly doubt it. Just give a call to PA and I am sure that they will tell you.

I never noticed any lockers in the 3 years I spent there waiting for busses (*shudder*), but who knows, there may be something in an area I haven't noticed....?

Oh, guess not - I just saw this on their site: "THE PORT AUTHORITY OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY DOES NOT PROVIDE BAGGAGE STORAGE FACILITIES AT PORT AUTHORITY BUS TERMINAL"

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to know this? Writing something? Planning on visiting?

NO lockers.

Ever since 9/11 even an unattended suitcase causes major worries. They're certainly not gonna allow the possibility of leaving a bomb in an out-of-view area.

The plan is to leave a suitcase full of money for the partners to find 20 years from now as payment for the last job!

Oh Geoff, was that the Three years that you lived at the Port Authority Bus Terminal?

Thanks - I didn't see that on their website...... where did you find it?

Yes, I'm coming to New York this weekend on business. Trying to save money on taxi fare..... I have 5 hours to kill before my hotel will be ready, yada yada..... I'll probably have my big bag with me.... so anyway. Hoping I don't have to lug it around.... but I will likely take several taxis instead.... it's just so expensive for a country girl like me.

Most hotels will allow you to check in bags before your room is ready. Call the hotel and find out if they'll do that for you.

Is the Hotel Uptown downtown or midtown? The cab ride from Port Authority shouldn't be all that bad. My advice to you is to call the hotel and ask them how far they are from PA and if they could give you an APPROXIMATE idea of how much a cab ride from PA to their hotel should cost. This way you'll have some kind of an idea.

Thank Don Cardi - I already called and they said it would be about $45. I know, I'm such a penny pincher! but I try to save where I can! And some of taxi drivers don't know where they're going!!! I had quite an experience a couple years ago!!!

Angela Marie, I assumed that you were coming in by Bus into PA and that is why you were asking the question. Obviously you must want to go into Manhatten for those 5 hours and was looking to leave your baggage in a locker at PA, correct?

Anyway I do believe that Newark Airport does have a shuttle into Manhatten, at a nominal cost, one much cheaper than taking a cab from Newark to Manhatten.

And as usual all I get is a general, non-specific answer.

Angela - have you tried to request an early check-in?
