You forgot Road to Perdition - which is IMO the best of the lot. It is a powerful movie and Tom is outstanding in this movie.
Forest Gump is the most "fitting" role for Tom, and its his 2nd best movie IMO, but he really surprised with Road To Perdition - His "deepest" performance.

I tend to agree. My 1st vote was for Apollo 13. I really dislike Forrest Gump, Splash, Sleepless, et al. Philadelphia & Apollo 13 were his best, Road to Perdition & Catch Me if You Can were decent.

I liked 'The Green Mile' Best

I did not cast a vote, because my personal favorite as a 'Tom Hanks' film happens to be 'Sleepless In Seattle' which is not even on the list !!

I love Hanks in that because it beautifully showcases both his acting chops AND adeptness for light comedy. I think it will oneday be a classic.

The others are great...and as an overall film I love Apollo 13, but it was an ensemble and Ron Howard vehicle more than a 'Hanks' showcase.

I really don't care for Hanks very much. He's certainly been in several great movies, but for me it wasn't his performance that made them great (Barring, of course, Forest Gump). I've always thought that he was extremely overrated.

I voted from Saving Private Ryan because that's my favorite of the movies he's been in, but I think his best performance was Forest Gump.

I gave my vote to Forrest Gump, one of my favorite films. Definetely his best performance. Though, I do have to say that Saving Private Ryan is also an extremely amazing film.

I put as many others Forrest Gump. I haven't seen Philadelphia but would like to 1 day (I've got so much other stuff that I want to watch first). I also kinda felt like watching Cast Away again this weekend. I know a lot of people don't like it but I did enjoy it. It's sad at the end when he returns and he sees Helen Hunt's character moving on with her life

Apollo 13 is my favorite, so I picked that. I think Philadelphia is his best performance (by far) and Forrest Gump is good too, though I always thought that movie was overrated.

And I've always thought (especially on these boards) that Hanks was underrated.

He's a superb actor and its hard to pick his best role. From a purely "professional" view I say his best was "Philadelphia". He gave incredible depth to that portrayal (of the lawyer suffering with AIDS), and its one of the best portrayals I've EVER seen. His "Forrest Gump" role was also incredibly done.

Hell, he even does a great gangster ("Road to Perdition").

From a more personal view I most like him in "The Green Mile" and "Sleepless in Seattle".

I'm looking forward to his portrayal in "The DaVinci Code" coming out next year.

His best role IMO is Forrest Gump BY FAR!
The best movie he starred in is a tie between Road to Perdition and Forrest Gump...

One of the better actors today...

I really like Saving Private Ryan, but Forrest Gump is the best in the list by far. after Forrest Gump, my favorite would be Catch Me If You Can.

Tony - he was in Catch me if you Can? I don't remember that..... it's been a while since I saw that.

I voted for Cast Away. I have never seen Forrest Gump....is it really all that good?

I liked all of Tom's movies except for the ones with Meg Ryan. I voted for Saving Private Ryan I would have said Road to Perdition, it's quite good all around.

Yeah I forgot he was in Catch Me If You Can too. My ma made me go see it in the theaters with her and I'm glad she did. I found more respect for Leo because of it, and I did like Hanks' accent! As for Road to Perdition, I only saw it once (in the theater I believe). I wouldn't mind seeing it again, but I just have a hard time believing Tom Hanks as a hit man (plus I like Jude Law more now, so hopefully I'd enjoy it more)

I have only seen bits of The Green Mile, but it looked like a great movie.

My top 3 would be Philadelphia, Forest Gump and Bachelor Party.

Forrest Gump, IMO, is one of the greatest films of the 90s. Even when I was a kid, and didn't understand what the hell the movie was about, I loved it. Now that I'm all growed up, and understand the film, its that much better.

He is one of my favorite actors. I hardly can decide which role was his best. From movies that I've seen here are my favorites in order:

1- Forrest Gump
2- The Green Mile
3- Apollo 13
4- Road to Perdition
5- Cast Away
6- The Terminal
7- Catch Me If You Can
8- Saving Private Ryan

I have not been able to find Sleepless in Seattle and Philadelphia yet.

I'm completely kidding. It's a funny movie for the 1st fifteen minutes. But it's never talked about because it was b/f Tom became a "serious" actor. Bachelor Party was also made when he was doing that ridiculously stupid tv show "Bosom Buddies."

I ADORE Tom Hanks. He got the outstandingly versatile talent permitting him to perform totally different characters, all of which are credible, deep, passionate. I especially like his permanently juvenile "good guy" look, expressing a clean, innocent soul forced to cope with Evil in its various expressions --- war as in Saving Private Ryan, tragic events as in Cast away, handicap as in Forrest Gump, fatal illness as in Philadelphia, guilt (Perdition road), conflict between duty and pity (The Green Mile). This doesn't mean I appreciate him mostly in his dramatic roles, in fact I adore his comedies as well, from "Turner & Hooch" to "Sleepless in Seattle" and "You've got mail".

What is my favourite Tom Hanks' movie? Difficult to choose only one, in fact I've been thinking of abstaining from voting. Finally I chose "Saving Private Ryan", mostly because this is the kind of cinema I prefer -- a great movie with a definite moral, a precise meaning and a clear message, not necessarily because I think he was greater there than in other movies. I definitely believe he is the greatest of his post-DeNiro/Pacino/Hoffman generation.
