I've only seen 3 of them personally -- The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, and Dr. Strangelove. All 3 of them were masterpieces, but the best IMO was The Shining. Talk about a mindfuck.

I gotta go with Dr. Strangelove

The Shining is a great horror, but his worst IMO (which isn't degrading). You might be interested in this .

I really can't decide if Dr. Strangelove or Clockwork Orange is better. I love the former more, but it's hard to decide. Both are masterpieces.

Bah, 2001 is Kubrick's career highlight.

I've seen four of his films, and from them alone, he seems overrated.

Lolita (1962): ***1/2
I actually really enjoyed this film, which isn't considered among his best. James Mason gave a great performance.

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964): ****
My favorite Kubrick. This is in my top 20 favorite films of all time.

The Shining (1980): *1/2
Horrible. I hated it. Slow, uninvolving, and a complete butchering of the original novel. Jack overracts, and begins his descent into self parody, and Shelly Duvall is just horrible.

Full Metal Jacket (1987): ***1/2
Interesting, though not always affective. It meananders quite a bit, but it's power ending nearly makes up for it's flaws.

2001: A Space Odyssey. One of the few films that could easily be used in defense of cinema as an art.

I really need to watch A Clockwork Orange one of these days. I really dug the book, and I only hear good things about the film.

I'm a big fan of the Shining. The dvd extras on that movie are really good. There is this whole documentary thing that was made by Kubrick's wife during the making of it. Shelley Duvall was apparently a huge drama queen, and she was really jealous because Jack was such a star. It was very interesting.

All of Kubicks movies are each so different and wonderful in their own way, and that makes it incredibly difficult to pick out the best one. Clockwork Orange is a dark and hard edged drama; Dr. Strangeglove is a comedy; Full Metal Jacket is a war movie; The Shining is a horror film; 2001 is a Sci/Fi film; And Spartacus is an epic.

But if I really had to choose between all of these films that I love, I would have to go with A Clockwork Orange.

2001 - the others are great, but 2001 is a piece of art, literally. A milestone in movie making. Poetic.

I'm amazed The Shining got as high as it did. I also forgot about Spartacus, although my vote will go to Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

A Clockwork Orange.

I woke up this morning with nothing to do and went to bed with only half of it done.

It appears that not many have seen Paths Of Glory.

One of my all-time favorites, and one that should not be missed.

I adore Burgess' Clockwork, but the film doesn't hold a patch to it.

2001 for me.

Still need to see The Killing, Spartacus, Killer's Kiss, Paths of Glory, and his first feature which nobody remembers the name of.
