I loved the Outsiders (book), I remember having to read it for a class back in jr. high. It's about the "greasers" and the "socs"...basically kids from opposite sides of the tracks who get into alot of fights. Eventually the fights get really violent, I remember how Ponyboy's friend kills one of the "Socs" which is the main storyline. The movie is good too. A poem by Robert Frost is the gist of the theme of the book, how youth and innocence doesn't last forever:
Nothing Gold Can Stay
Nature’s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay.

These are two of my favorite books and movies of all time. I also loved the books Tex; That That Was Then, This is Now; and Taming the Star Runner. But the movie versions of those weren't as great. Well, I don't think there was a movie of Taming the Star Runner. And Tex wasn't too bad, because even though it wasn't FFC's movie, at least Matt Dillon was still in it. But That Was Then REALLY sucked. Emilio just couldn't pull it off on his own. But the books were all good. Either I'm getting deja vù or I wrote this sometime in the recent past. Maybe in the Movies thread, last week? I don't know. Anyway. Like I said, they're fabulous movies. The books were unbelievably good. I loved them the first time I read them, back when I was like 10, 11, 12 years old... and I still love them now. I think everyone who grew up in the 80's and early 90's loves them-- am I wrong? Let's do it for Johnny, man!!

The Outsiders book was good, but I can't believe FFC made the movie. Knowing what I know about FFC now and considering his other movie triumphs, this is a ridiculously cheesy film. As Letizia quoted, there are some horrible lines: "Let's do it for Johnny" and "Stay gold, Pony Boy." Then the ultimate cheesy ending with Matt Dillon.
The film was a who's who of today's more famous actors: Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Diane Lane to name a few. There were also some who are now has-beens: Leif Garrett (yes, that Leif Garrett), Emilio Estevez, C. Thomas Howell, and Ralph Macchio.
