i find your comments (about begging help of the us) wrong cause my country never called teh us for help in any period of the history. dont want to get into politics yet, if you'd like, i wont say no.

Before you make statements like that, please know what you are talking about my friend.

Turkey has long been a client of
the United States. According to independent researchers using government figures,
since 1993 President Clinton had approved $8.3 billion worth of giveaways to Turkey. After Israel and Egypt (by far the leading recipients of U.S. aid), Turkey had raked in the most U.S. foreign aid, displaced in that spot at that time by Colombia.

From 1980 to 1999, The United States has given your country $4.627 billion in grant aid, and $1.982 billion in loans!

So do you still claim that Turkey has never called the USA for any help in any period of it's history?

Don Cardi [/b][/quote]Don,

begging for help is one thing and receiving dollars from the us for the military bases is another thing. however, the client in this case is the us, not türkiye. and not since 1983, but since the end of ww2, türkiye has been in alliance with the us and received american dollars ever since then. sure you may call it "help", but i call it "the price of being ally". so my country didnt ever beg for the help of the us. (btw, i hate using the term "my country" as i dont own it myself. lol)

regards

I'm going to side with CDIS here, not only because it's been awhile since a good debate, but because I also don't remember reading or hearing anything about Turkey requesting for help. -Pat

and let me clarify one thing here. the dollars given turkish government wasnt for the sake of God, but for the soldiers sent to korea, for türkiye's participation in the nato, the cento and supporting the anti-communist movement in the 60's and 70's and the american military base in the south-east region of türkiye established during the gulf war. so, everything has a price. thats it. not help. and all these actions taken were demanded by the us. otherwise we were gonna be a socialist country led by the soviets. good bargain anyway
