I heard that the Genovese and Gambino families had operations in Albany / Saratoga Springs and that some Genovese mobsters used to go hunting up in the Berkshire’s in the 60s and 70s but I’ve never been able to find anything about mobsters operating anywhere west of Springfield/Chicopee. I lived in Pittsfield for a few years and there’s definitely street gangs and drug crews in the area, corrupt cops, and potential for organized crime to be happening. I also met a former Patriarca member who was involved in the William Grasso hit back in 1989 and served about 19 years for it but he was out of the life.
Any info I’m missing? Any era/time period, Pittsfield, North Adams, Greenfield, Westfield, Northampton, etc.
There were two traditional Mafia factions operating in Western Mass. The Sam Cufari/Frank Scibelli regime of Springfield, which was the largest Genovese crew there, and a second allied crew headed by Frank Iaconi who oversaw a smaller crew that controlled the City of Worcester.
I am not aware of any Gambino affiliated factions in Western Mass., or any other factions, other than a few Patriaraca guys sprinkled around.
