Old-time actor Henry Sliva, born back in East Harlem, NY, just died out in California.

The 95-year old iconic actor's career spanned a half-century in a wide variety of films. But he was most noted for his many memorable roles as a gangster, hoodlum, enforcer, and all around tough guy. Silva was a close buddy of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and others of their ilk.

I personally liked him as an actor very much. One of the last of a dying breed.

RIP He was the final surviving member of the cast of Oceans 11.

First saw him in "Johnny Cool". I'm not sure if it was his first screen appearance. The movie has an amazing cast, and worth a look if you can find a copy.

Yeah, Henry Silva dated back to the 1950s. He played opposite Sinatra, Martin, and all those fellas many times. Never a leading man that I remember, always a secondary actor, but an integral, often sort-after "character actor" nonetheless.

To name just a few of the TV shows and movies he's acted through the years are the following;

Ocean's Eleven
Ghost Dog
Above the Law
The Manchurian Candidate
The Outsider
Step Brothers
The Boss
Justice
The New Batman Adventures
The End of Violence
Superman
The Harvest
Sharky's Machine
Sound Beach
Dick Tracy
Trained to Kill
Cannonball Run II
Chained Heat
Day of the Assassin
The Italian Connection
etc., etc., etc....

But Silva's movie credit date all the way back to at least 1952;

Johnny Cool
The Return of Mr. Moto
The Tall T
Alfred Hitchcock
Buck Rogers
Ride a Crooked Trail
The Bravados
Cry of the Prostitute
The Mice
The Law and Jake Wade
Cinderfella
The Untouchables

For those of you who were unfamiliar with Sliva, now that you know his name and face I bet you'll recognize him in many many shows you watch in the future.

He was a very accomplished "character actor" who specialized in playing "tough guy" and hoodlum roles.

The Hills Run Red. That movie is worth the viewing. Love and Bullets there are many.

. The Bravados was another good one. Very dark morality western for that time
