Looks like DA might've called this right a couple of weeks ago. Cheney was sent to the hospital a couple of minutes ago for shortness of breath.

Bad deal, but it's probably nothing to get terribly alarmed about. We know he has heart-related issues.

We'll have to see what happens.

Politics aside, that's too bad. I know from my own father, who has heart problems it can be very scary for all.

If this turned out to be fatal, or if Cheney was to ill to serve as VP, does anyone know the protocol as to what would happen? Would Bush just pick another VP, or is there someone that automatically would replace him? Also, has this ever happened before??

Bush just picks another VP.

As far as I know there is no order of succession as there is with the President.

I went on an ultra liberal message board and they are all praying that he dies...

I never outright predicted Cheney's demise. I merely asked in a poll if he would be dead 4 years from now. I got some criticize just for asking the question. I don't wish anyone illness or death, but no reasonable person would ever sell Cheney life insurance.

I think this is part of long-standing Bush strategy. Just like Poppa Bush, W. picked a VP that wound never be a future presidential contender. Hence - Jeb in 2008!!

After one of the Constitutional Amendments (27th?), the President now handpicks another VP if the VP position become vacant. This happened once already: Nixon picked Ford as VP after Spiro Agnew resigned in scandal.

Therefore,and I repeat from a prior thread:

W. COULD PICK BROTHER JEB AS VP!!!!

The 25th Amendment is the one that makes this provision. Also, after Ford became President (when Nixon resigned) he (Ford) picked Nelson Rockefeller to be his vice-president.

Thanks DA and SC. I forgot about those two instances. I barely remember Rockefeller, and Agnew, didn't his resignation have something to do with the fact that he at one time was under physciatric care or something, or am I thinking of another political figure???????

I wonder what board that may have been.

Agnew resigned after pleading "no-contest" to tax fraud charges. You may be thinking of Thomas Eagleton who was in the running to be the Democratic Party candidate for vice-president in the 1972 election. Eagleton backed out of the race after it was made public he had electric-shock therapy for depression.

The stress has got to be taking it's toll on ol' Cheney's ticker. I might be right as I stated in DA's poll, as much as I don't wish death on him, he might not make it these next four years.

Doc

And you liar, teller of tall tales: you trample all the Lord's commandments underfoot, you murder, steal, commit adultery, and afterward break into tears, beat your breast, take down your guitar and turn sin into a song. Shrewd devil, you know very well that God pardons singers no matter what they do, because he can simply die for a song.
