They were probably a clan heavily into cocaine trafficking. There are Ndrangheta clans getting into cocaine trafficking (which they distribute in other parts of Europe) so they can feed the entire village. If only 1/3 of the men aren't Ndrangheta members in that village, there's not much left to shake down lol You're right, The Filadelfia locale is well known for his drug business. A few months ago, the police made a big bust against the Filadelfia Locale and they arrested 75 men. Arresting 75 individuals at one time would be a major bust in a city like NYC but imagine the impact in a town that has around 5000 inhabitants. It tells you how mobbed-up that place is.

Louiebynochi, Newark was owned by the MOB right up through the 80's. They were controlling everything in that city (politics included) and with money coming from the commerce (trucks never stop coming into Newark from the turnpike), the International Airport, the shipping ports and then add the typical mob rackets for the neighborhood folks and this city was owned by the seven families. I understand other cites were controlled by individual families or in NYC case more than one. My question is, any other city have seven (or more) families working side by side and controlling everything? Not to mention the Campisi's own and the Gallichio's on their own basically. And the campisis were w the Genovese and had ties to the Gambinos and Colombo’s as well Per capita probably Newark or Youngstown You had at one point 3 families there in a town of 150 thousand maybe. Detroit,Pittsburgh and Cleveland

Arresting 75 individuals at one time would be a major bust in a city like NYC but imagine the impact in a town that has around 5000 inhabitants. It tells you how mobbed-up that place is. Yep, and that alone also shows the difference between a phenomenon like the Ndrangheta and other drug trafficking organizations in Western Europe. In towns where the Ndrangheta holds sway, organized crime has been woven into the fabric of daily life. It's become a way of survival and earning a living, because other opportunities were always so scarce. In for instance the Netherlands or Belgium on the other hand, people generally get into drug trafficking because they want the easy money and because they just want to "play gangster". That doesn't make them any less violent, but the difference is striking. No matter what background you're from, whether you're a Dutch, Belgian or Italian-Belgian guy from a blue collar community or a broken home or a Moroccan or Turkish guy from an ethnic enclave in a major city or a former mine worker's commune...there are ALWAYS plenty of other opportunities around to earn a decent living for yourself. Plenty of them got a shot at college and actually went to college...I should know. The thing is, most of these guys just become criminals because they want to live that way, not because they didn't get other opportunities. That's that difference between actual "hunger" and just "lust".

A previous expose I'd written I titled "Connecticut's Cosa Nostra Chaos" spoke to this very subject. And although NYC and New Jersey have the reputation as the most 'mobbed up' city (or state), Connecticut was indeed among the most 'Wild West' type atmosphere for Cosa Nostra. There were so many crews and individual mobsters active in the state that it indeed led to much chaos. Hence the name I picked for the title of the story. Read it some time. I think you guys will enjoy it immensely https://thenewyorkmafia.com/2020/06/06/connecticut-mob/
